A great 3-season layer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Much of the year I wear this top as my second layer when out and about running, skiing and otherwise. In the spring and fall months it provides great warmth against cold wind and morning chill, yet is light enough so that when I take it off it doesn't occupy much extra room in my pack or around my waist.

In the wintertime is where it shines. The classic Lifa high-zip collar comes all the way up to my chin and keeps my neck nice and warm, and the thumbholes on the sleeves help to cover my hands, providing extra insulation even inside gloves.

The fit is comfortably snug so it doesn't impede movement in dynamic sports like running or skiing, and allows you to layer over it with one of HH's great training jackets. This is definitely a top to keep in your quiver.

Versatile Base Layer

I am a Helly Hansen Ambassador/Athlete and international mountain guide for Mountain Madness. I exclusively use Helly Hansen products all year, all around the world, alpine climbing and ski mountaineering big mountains.

On my recent expedition to the Rolwaling Himalaya of Nepal HH sent me out with the Warm Odin Hybrid Top. I found the top to be a very versatile piece of clothing, wearing it nearly everyday for 30 days.

From approaching climbs in the sun heated valleys to being buried by 5 other layers, the Warm Top performed flawlessly. It kept me warm, transported sweat away from my skin and dried quickly.

One of the features I really like are the thumb holes to pull the sleeves over your hands and keep them warm in those in-between temperatures. The tall neck and deep zipper also offer the ability to seal out wind and cold or vent open wide when it is warmer. The top works well alone as a base layer or with another layer underneath when it is colder.

Keeps your body dry

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I use the Warm series base layer for all my winter activities. It does an amazing job of wicking away moisture.
It seems to be sized on the small side. According to HH size charts I'm a (L) large, but it is too tight for me to zip it to the top. I'd suggest going one size up.

FYI on base layer care: COLD water gentle wash with just a couple tablespoons of powdered non-bleach detergent, double rinse and partially tumble dry on low.
