If you're looking for a trim, technical weatherproof shell that's hard as nails, you can rely on the Helly Hansen Men's Verglas Jacket to get er done and then some. The Verglas is a seasoned veteran in Helly Hansen's lightweight alpine division, and a favorite of backcountry killers worldwide who depend on its tough three-ply HellyTech XP construction, abrasion-resistant stretch shoulder panels, and weight-saving laser-cut pockets with full watertight zips. The Verglas' interior is anything but spartan, with a removable stretch powder skirt, internal goggle and media pockets, but its svelte pattern shuns the smallest shred of extra fabric so you won't haul a single superfluous ounce up the couloir.

Bottom Line: The Verglas is Helly Hansen's steady backcountry mercenary.

The Verglass jacket is an old standby. You can't go wrong with this no frills shell that is super comfy in sunny conditions and keeps you warm and dry when it's storming. I rock this jacket probably 50% of the time I'm out skiing and can't think of much wrong with it. The new Verglass Pant also kicks total ass!

My son has had a 3 in 1 Helly Hansen jacket for about 6 years and would like to replace it. He uses it mostly for street wear but does do outdoor activities. Do you have a suggested replacement?

North Face and Columbia make tons of different 3-in-1 jackets. Check them out.

Excellent jacket, highly recommended

I originally bumped into this jacket at an on-slope Whistler HH store. Selling for upwards of $500 US. Got it here for $320'ish US. Owned for 1.5 seasons.

The jacket is unstoppable. Highly recommended.

Powder Day Features:
well-designed snow skirt: it even snaps into your belt loops on any pair of standard ski pants, great for limiting plumbers crack and the typical high riding nature of skirt linings.
always dry and warm, i usually wear a t-shirt underneath as it stops all moisture and wind. rarely a need for a liner, maybe a sweatshirt for those 10-degree days. this jacket does a great job of retaining any generated body heat whilst zipped up and locked-down.
the hood is well designed, great visibility w/ goggles.
the seamed pocket liners are great, rarely catch whilst zipping up/down.
great front chest pocket for iPod, phone, camera. this chest pocket has two zippers: one that opens to the outside, and one opening to the inside. operating an ipod and routing headphones couldn't be easier. (read that three times to see if you can visualize).

Spring/Sunny Days:
good ventilation courtesy of underarm vents/zips;
get's pretty hot thanks to the black/black color schemes.
removable powder skirt, just don't lose it.

Good stuff

Would highly recommend this shell, but would suggest you try it on first as I found it ran small. I am 6' 200#, and found the L to be a bit restricting. Very simple design, with little touches such as pass pocket that work great.

Would work great for backcountry (if I did that), but found with a base layer and fleece/down vest it was plenty warm for resort skiing.

This is not an insulated jacket. It is a shell. What that means is, alone it wont keep you very warm, but you have full options on what layers you use so you never over heat or get too cold.

HH does it again

Perfect shell. Great for backcountry use with it's bomber construction and low weight. This my 3rd season with this shell and I wouldn't be surprized if I get another 2 seasons out of it. The fit is perfect for me, a bit baggy with slightly longer sleeve lengths then other shells I have owned.
