Bring full-stretch waterproof breathability and anatomically correct precision fit on your next expedition with the Helly Hansen Men's Odin Mountain Jacket. Pushing outerwear technology and construction techniques to the limit as usual, Helly Hansen spent 3 years developing the Odin collection in extreme conditions from the Himalayas to the Antarctic Ocean. The Odin Mountain Jacket features YKK Aquaseal zips, laser cut pit vents, a helmet-compatible hood, RECCO reflector, and welded abrasion panels for a trim package that's light as lace but solid as an iceberg. Helly Hansen's Fusion Modular System allows the Odin Jacket to zip into the Mountain Pant for a total weather seal.
Bottom Line: Trim, light, and tough enough to conquer the globe—the Odin Mountain Jacket.
If you own the 2008 model then I congratulate you on owning the best mountain jacket that money can buy. BUT if you own or are thinking of purchasing a new Odin mountain jacket STEER CLEAR! You DO NOT WANT this jacket. In one sentence, the post 2008 Odin Mountain Jacket is not the same design that won the global Red Dot design award. First and foremost the fabric is inferior. It is flimsy and arguably thinner but worst of all the fabric snags on the Velcro cuffs. Sure HH may think no one is going to see that, but consider if Velcro causes the fabric to snag and pill, then ice, dirt, trees, a rock wall or even your pack has the potential of destroying your jacket's exterior by simply brushing against it. The RECCO is attached by a rectangular patch instead of an oval like the original. If you wear a watch or a glove, the patch corners are bound to snag as your hand and arm enter and exit the sleeve over the years. These and a few other seemingly small issues completely change the feel of the jacket. Nick Cienski designed the jacket so that the person wearing it felt secure. This feeling is completely subdued by the "revisions" that HH made to the post 2008 Odin Mountain Jackets. Trust me I have worn both and the difference is like night and day. Yes they both look great but where WE go there aren't any mirrors. Trust a true Norwegian, what matters most is performance and feel, unfortunately the post 2008 Odin feels dead.
bought this jacket right from a helly/hansen store in colorado for $450 and was super pumped. went to go use it the next day at a-basin it 4 degree weather and the crappy plastic zipper snapped right off with very little force. i was pissed and would never recommend this overpriced garbage to anyone i know

I wore the Helly Hansen Odin Mountain Jacket for a two weeks in the Selkirks Mountains of British Columbia this winter. We encountered cold temperatures and all types of harsh weather. We went Heli Skiing and ski touring. The Odin Jacket stood up to these harsh conditions with ease. It also allowed excellent freedom of movement for the technical skiing that we were doing. I would recommend this jacket to any skier looking for protection from the elements and for the fit of the Odin while skiing terrain from mellow to extreme.
I have been under the Odin for the better part of a season or so, and I have no complaints after 80+ days. The fabric is not completely drench-proof, but it is a wonderful shell to throw on at the top of a hike, wear over an insulating layer, or wear with a t-shirt on a warm sunny day. Zippers and vents all function well, and the cuffs are large enough to accommodate all of my gloves and mitts. The reinforcements also keep your shoulders from getting torn up when you toss your skis over your shoulder for a quick jaunt up the hill. No Complaints.
OK, first thing, you should know is Backcountry did a great job on my return of this jacket.
I have an old Helly that I love but it needed to be replaced. So, I bought the Helly Odin.
Helly has stripped out some of the best features to make more profit on the what is one of the most expensive jackets on the market. No double zipper, no storm flap on the zipper, hood not detachable, no more mesh on the pit zips, no velcro tabs on the main zipper because they removed the storm flap. Several other nice features in the old Helly were also removed. You can find jackets for around $300 that are 20/20 on the water repel and sweat exhaust with all the features that Helly has removed. Helly use to be the best but now Orage and Obermeyer and others have a better jacket for far less money.
Hey does anyone know if this jacket has an inner pocket??? On youtube there is a short video of the new odin line and the guy opens the jacket and it looks like it does have an inner pocket but it says that there is not an inner pocket on here.
Nope, no inner pockets, but the outside ones are big enough to dump all sorts of stuff into. This keeps the jacket really light for how storm-proof it is. Still, your right, inner pockets would be a bonus... it would just require more seam taping and possibly stiching.

I work with Mountain Madness a uniform partner with Helly Hansen. I was honestly skeptical of the waterproof/breathablity of the Helly-tech only because I am just not accustomed to it. I have to say, after a predominately WET ski season here in the Cascades the fabric performed really well. Not only is the nylon and DWR a quality material but the breathable membrane does just that...Its a small window of conditions that one encounters where a hardshell ski jacket is even necessary(I would ordinarily choose a soft-shell model for ski-touring) however, given the wet conditions I encounter in the NW, this jacket is key. Its even a little lighter than last years model and the removable powder skirt as great to for my minimalist tendencies. I love the bells and whistles too. On an alpine climbing type of piece I find them unnecessary but the little ipod pouch is slick and so are the pocket placements. Could of used a little less sleeve length(and I have long arms), but other than that the cut is that great HH euro cut that Ive come to love.
Helly Hansen outerwear is manufactured in a variety of factories all over the world, these locations are on an item by item basis. In this case, the Odin Jacket & Pants (http://www.backcountry.com/store/HYH0341/Helly-Hansen-Odin-Mountain-Pant-Mens.html) are MADE IN THAILAND.
Finally a jacket that is actually waterproof and breathable. The stretch allows for ample movement in vertical terrain. The jacket has provided enough air flow for ski touring, and has kept me dry on drippy waterfall ice.
First let me say I know this coat is a pricey considering its not gore-tex. I spend a lot of time on the water in the summer months so I have come to trust HH gear. I bought this coat and it has been fantastic. Breathes extremely well and is completely waterproof. I was a little worried about the lightweight fabric tearing but after many brushes with rocks, trees, and ice is has remained unscathed.
I was lucky enough to test this jacket for HH late season, and I wish I wore it home. First of all, 20K rating is AFTER washing, so you're still totally waterproof unlike some OTHER brands. Bronze accent colors and waterproof zippers look badass-- the pic doesn't do those details justice. Fully stretch and a perfect cut for resort or backcountry shralping. What else could you ask for? How about the powpow skirt zips into the Odin Mountain Pant? Yeah that's right, get you some. SIX STARS
I am very happy with this jacket used it for a ten day bear hunting trip in northeren Alberta. It rained 8 out of 10 days I never got wet or cold and I got my first bear with a bow and arrow.
The HH Odin collection is pretty damned amazing. All across the board, all of these products are bad ass! Not only are the tech features incredible, but the material is incredibly stretchy, breathable, waterproof and windproof. Perhaps more so than anything else on the market? And the understated black collection works. I am someone who digs color and pop in my outerwear, but that said these things are spot on! I have the shell and pants and they look awesome together! BUY THESE!
