Slip into the Helly Hansen North Marker 3L XP jacket, and you'd never know you were helping the environment until we told you. Of course, re-using your old jacket is ideal, but if you need a new one, shouldn't it have recycled hardware, environmentally-friendly dyes and waterproofing, and a PFC-free water-repellent finish? The answer is yes, and because the North Marker is from Helly Hansen, you know it has all the function you're seeking in a weatherproof mountain shell.

  • Ekolab collection incorporates earth-conscious design without sacrificing performance
  • 3-ply HellyTech XP for light, durable waterproof breathability

Bottom Line: Go green when you go big.

What's the waterproof rating on this jacket? How does it

What's the waterproof rating on this jacket? How does it handle longterm use versus the Cloudveil Koven shell? I want a touring jacket that I would layer under that can withstand long hours in the backcountry. Is this a good option?

Definitely a light shell. I thought it would be more beefy for the price.

I would have used this as a rain jacket before I even thought about bringing it to the mountains. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it would have been durable enough, but multiple layers would have been necessary and that's not really my thing. I've been wearing an Oakley shell for a while and it is much more heavy duty than this guy.

I am about 5' 11", 200lb, athletic build, and large fit me okay with room for multiple (2 or 3) THIN layers.

I'd say if you're looking to wear a shell, long sleeve t-shirt, and a t-shirt when you layer, you will be cold if you used this as a shell.

Check out the best way to layer while outside. Each activity requires a different combination, but regardless of the activity the best way to manage your wamth and dryness is to incorporate this system. Check it out here...

Does this jacket breathe well as a ski jacket? The knock is supposedly that it is not very breatheable or tough enough for skiing.

Yup, even has a powder skirt so you don't get snow all up and down inside. Remember it's just a shell, though, so wear layers appropriate to the temperature underneath.
