I got this in medium, in spite of some reviews that said it ran small. I find it fits perfectly (I normally wear medium, and my measurements correspond to the medium in the size chart). It is nice and warm when zipped up. I wore it under a Pendelton wool shirt and ski parka in 0 F windy weather. When the weather warmed up, just unzip it for some breeze flow.
It is soft and not at all itchy.

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
This base layer is waaaaaaaaaaaaay warm! A nice form fitting layer that has never bunched on me or even moved up my arms a bit while climbing. I knew HH put out a top notch product but hesitated because of the price. I'm so sorry I waited, I could have had several HH products for the price I wasted on cheaper stuff. No more penny pinching on gear for this guy!
Very warm.

- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I used this on a 20F bike ride as a base layer & it appears to be very warm & keeps you dry. The large fits like a large should & is quite comfortable. Excellent quality like HH normally is.

I'm a big fan of any outdoor clothing that use merino wool. It wicks moisture well and it doesn't hold funky smells. This top delivers with an athletic cut, top notch comfort and superior wicking than merino wool alone. Should have ordered another one.
Nice but too small.

I'm giving this shirt 4 stars because it appears to be a well-made product. Can't really speak for the performance since I didn't keep it. I wish I had read the reviews before I ordered. This thing isn't just tight, it's SMALL! Very small in the shoulders, chest and arms. I'm 5'11" 185 lbs with a 34 inch waist and I ordered a Large. It was snug, but acceptable in the waist, but tight to the point of discomfort in the chest and under my arms. I tried to zip it up and thought I might asphyxiate.
Rather than mess with trying a size up, I'm just going back to a Smartwool Large which fits me perfectly.

The key to staying warm is staying dry and your choice of baselayer technology is where staying dry begins. Check out this video to learn the importance of baselayer.

See how the benefits of LIFA next to skin and a layer of merino wool on the outside of this baselayer offers superior moisture management and the added benefits of warmth from wool for resort ski days or low intensity winter activities.
comfortable but tight

The material is 57%merino wool and 43%polypropylene,it is comfortable and breathable .I think it is nicer than 100%merino wool.
Keeping you warm but not muggy and also not itchy.
The shortcoming is too tight if you depend on the sizing guide.Original sizing guide would be more correct for you.

Another great suggestion from Backcountry's sales team. I asked my salesman for a suggestion on long underwear and he suggested this item from personal experience. That's what I like about this company - they hire people that know from personal experience what works! This garment is well made and performs beautifully. Thanks bc.c

Similar to the Charger, the Freeze is thicker and a different material than Lifa. I plan to wear this one primarily when the temperatures really drop in the next few weeks and the snow starts falling. A bit pricey at the moment, but if the price fell anymore, I'd buy them all up!

One of the best super warm baselayers I have had the pleasure of trying. The fabric is so nice, no itch, no binding, almost like a second skin. The sweat you work up from that 20 minute skin up from the lift is wicked away super fast, keeping you dry. The minus 30 celsius days are not an issue, this is great under midlayer and shell.

If you've never been a fan of wool because it was itchy and didn't move well... this is leaps and bounds better, but it'll still irritate. I finally had to wear a layer underneath. Also wears on the small side and rides up in the pits. I'd suggest 1 size larger than what you normally get. Otherwise, warmth to weight ratio is super.
Dynamite. Freeze.

I am so glad I got this on sale so I could afford to get two. Dig this, I am running outside, it's a partly cloudy 30 degrees. I have on a base layer tshirt, a base long sleeve, both are thin and spandexy, and the Freeze. I'm out 40 minutes, On the home stretch, I look to my right because something shiny or white catches my eye. It's FROST on my shoulder!! The thing was wicking and warming so well the sweat froze on my shoulder and upper back but I was still warm as pie. I say, 'Get it'.
Best ever.

Absolutely best top I own. Versalite enough to be a baselayer or a solo top that is very warm. Keeps you dry and wicks sweat so fast you can see it bead up or mist off of you. Truly enjoy putting this on every time.
In Japan on a long trip, I wore this to run in and it didn't require washing until after 4 or 5 runs. Very strong moisture management and anti-microbial performance.
