Intelligence AK Snowboard

You might not need a degree to ride the Head Intelligence AK Snowboard, but you probably need one to understand its innerworkings. Head embedded vibration-dampening Intellifibers into the Intelligence AK so the faster you fly, the smoother your ride. Intellifibers were developed for use on helicopter blades, but seeing as they transfer energy to stiffen the board at high speeds when you’re picking up a lot of chatter, these techno-wonders make a heap of sense. This big mountain slayer also sports a strong carbon Kevlar torsion frame and a snappy wood core so you can go big when it counts on those rare bluebird days in AK. Head combined the AK’s elliptical sidecut with its long directional shape so you can carve giant turns and hold an edge despite the g-forces threatening to scuttle your ship.

Bottom Line: The Head Intelligence AK Snowboard has a higher IQ than Steven Hawking.

Day 10 in colorado

By:
December 22, 2008

I ride Loveland, Abasin and Vail and have ridden this board hard the few days I have had so far this season (10).
The board handles great on hard pack and crust carving tight and solid.
In the pow, it is amazing. Super fun to do surf slashes and eats up the trees.
The base has a structure to it so it is VERY fast, make sure to brush out the wax from the structure= fast!!

My only request is, More taper, while I like the small amount of camber and smaller tail, I would like to have at least 10-20mm of taper and a S-rocker like a burton fish along with Head's extensive size options ( 162, 168, 172!!) and Thanks to HEAD for offering some smaller waist widths. ( I am 6.3 and squeeze into a 9.5 boot).

Head customer service is amazing. i had some in-depth questions and I was forwarded to one of their pro testers...talk about service...the dude even called to make sure everything was cool!!

this question might really show my newbyness, but I'm really

this question might really show my newbyness, but I'm really not sure about the length of boards. I started riding last year on a head board that I got in Germany, I have no idea what model it is, but it's 157cm and I'm 6'2". Does that sound right, or should I have a longer board? I'm also 190lbs, if that makes any difference. I've been checking out this AK board and I'm totally digging it, but if I was to buy it, I don't know which length I should choose 162cm or 172cm. Is there any difference in the width of the two? Would this board be a good choice for a semi-beginner who really wants to get into boarding?

162 is just about perfect for you!...judging by your height and weight (which matters almost more than height), and a 172 is way too big for you...it does depend on what you ride tho too, the 162 is going to be very fast and stable but you arent going going to be able to butter or jib with it so stay away form park...but this is a big mountain freeride board anyway, and is perfect for when you want to step your skills up to the next level

Intelligence AK

By: Backcountry.com Vendor Rep
November 21, 2008

I am the sales rep for Head snowboards but I want to give you a little idea of what how this board rides. It really rides a lot like a traditional all mt. board except that it is tuned to out perform a traditional all mt. board in powder. The AK has a medium flex to it but, with the Intelligence technology it stiffens up on hard snow making for unbelievable torsional stiffness which helps it grip on edge (If you are not familiar with Intelligence there is a video on Youtube under 'Head intelligence snowboards') So in that sense it is a lot like our Intelligence I.CT. However, this board is just slightly tapered (2mm) in the tail and the tail length (off the snow portion of the tail) is shortened by 2 cm. That 2cm is added to the nose of the board which gives the AK a longer nose profile than our I.CT. The combination of the slightly tapered tail and shorter tail means less leaning back in pow. Essentially this means you will have to fight your tail less to keep your nose up on those big pow days. The longer nose keeps the board on top of the snow. Don't think of this board as a powder only board however. I actually raced in the Mt. Baker Banked Slalom on this board in Feb 2007 and it was awesome. The AK makes for a awesome everyday board for the all mountain ripper person who rides 90% forward and 10% switch or less. Its an everyday board that also rips in powder like a real powder board.

Hi Ivor,
I just got the 2010 172 AK. I am reading about some people don't like the snake camber and that it doesn’t ride well in anything but powder. Maybe it was the snowboarder. But I was wondering what your thoughts were on it on a normal day with a couple inches of fresh pow or packed down snow. I like that it has the 7200 base but I am considering going to the regular ICT. Also is there anything special I need to do for waxing? I use Hertel race wax. My rider profile would be steep and deep and then fast.
Thanks,
Rick
