    Over-the-top workmanship that lasts.

Utilize yak Power to help you get up the mountain. No, we're not suggesting you ride hairy beasts, but rather that you clamber up the trail in the Hanwag Men's Lhasa Hiking Boot, made from genuine yak leather. Direct from the Lhasa Leather Factory via Germany, this unique boot boasts a remarkably luxurious feel, but not at the expense of durability. The Lhasa's upper is complemented by a tough, all-terrain Vibram AW sole, and it's all put together with Hanwag's legendary attention to detail and outstanding quality.

    • Tibetan yak leather upper is highly durable and naturally hydrophobic but with a soft, supple feel
    • Leather lining is tanned with a chrome-free process that makes it safe for those allergic to ordinary leather
    • Leather-lined, padded mid-height collar keeps out debris
    • Easy-tightening ball-bearing lacing system with Deep Pull instep hook holds your foot in place for a comfortable, friction-free fit
    • Rubber toe and heel caps protect your foot and the boot from trail hazards
    • Vibram AW sole with deep lugs gives you excellent traction on varied terrain

    Nice boot but...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10.5

So it came time to get a new pair after wearing the vibram down to nothing on a pair of Zimberlands I had. I decided to take a chance on Hanwag as that is what I did 10 years ago and got a ln excellent boot out of it. These are good, probably excellent boots in every aspect except the heels have little to no padding I've found. I have tried every combination of insoles and heel cups, to no avail. Maybe I got a bum pair, who knows. I lean toward full leather boots as I know when I clean and oil them they are waterproof. These are true to that, the yak leather is amazing and extremly wear resistant! The naturally hydroponic leather is great as I'm one to walk through not around things but the leather liner (first time ever for me) is really strange. I found that walking in shorts , any bit of debris that falls into the boot you can easily feel through socks. The first weekend they took me up the face of a ski hill and back down the other side for a day hike and presented no trouble in fit or creating blisters. My only complaint is the heel as above mentioned.

    fitting comparison

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

I did not use the boot I merely tried 4 of them on. I was needing a solid feeling boot. Many hikers like flexibility but I need stiffer boots due to foot arthritis. This came in second to the Zamberlin Viox. Nice fitting, nice leather. Zamberlin Vioz fitting glove like on my foot. Your choice.

    What is a hanwag?

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Have used for several long day hikes over the last few months, but not in snow or real heavy rain yet - they have been fine in light rain. Got them out of the box and went for a day hike with no problems. They feel great, especially the leather lining! It breaks into shape of foot nicely. Maybe just a tiny bit long for the size? A little spendy (?) but seem well maid. I would maybe give 5 stars but have not used long enough yet.
