Haflöfs has been making technical gear for over 100 years, so it knows a thing or two about how to make a quality jacket, and the Couloir doesn't disappoint. It's a durable and highly breathable softshell, kitted out with a 3L Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable membrane, DWR finish, and fully taped seams to keep Mother Nature out of your long johns. It's not as waterproof as a bomber hardshell, but it makes up for it by being exceptionally breathable and flexible, making it as good for touring as it is for lapping the resort or even wearing around town (and if the breathability isn't enough for you, just pop open the underarm zips for an extra shot of cool air).

When the pow starts piling up, just snap the stretchy powder skirt down into compatible Haflöfs pants to form a bombproof snow barrier, and cinch down the helmet-compatible hood to keep your head from freezing solid. Both the hood and the hem drawcord are easy to operate with one hand, so you can keep your other hand free to hold onto your poles or the chairlift, and the articulated sleeves make it easier to hike through technical terrain or wave furiously at your friends as they ski underneath you.
