When you're skiing through 16 hours of Swedish darkness in your quest to shred Åre for 24 straight hours, you need rugged, thoughtfully designed gear like the Haglöfs Chute II Men's Pant. Built with 100 years of Scandinavian know-how and finally available in North American, the Chute's 70D nylon fabric is treated with a DWR coating and laminated to a two-layer Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable membrane to keep sleet, snow, and (pick your least-favorite winter precipitation) at bay, while taped and reinforced seams serve up an extra layer of protection. Moisture can't get in, but it can escape via the slanted side vents to keep you cool when the sun's "high" in the sky, and the elastic ankle gaiters and Shoeller reinforced instep and hem make sure there are no gaps down around your boots. The Chute doesn't have a bib, but the hook-and-loop waist adjustment means you can get a snug, snow-proof fit regardless, and the thigh and back pockets hold on to gloves when you need to snap a chairlift picture of the rising sun right around noon.
