When conditions progress from "deep" to "snorkel deep" or the weather goes from "bad" to "unholy", the bomber protection of the Haglöfs Chute II Men's Bib Pant is seriously appreciated. Haglöfs is brand new to North America, but it's been making rugged gear for a century now, so it knows its way around the mountains, and the 70D nylon, two-layer Gore-Tex laminate, and DWR coating of the Chute are proof. They'll keep the gnarliest weather at bay, while the bib, suspenders, and adjustable waist keep your pants from falling down and letting all the snow in and the elastic ankle gaiters keep your boots dry as a bone. If the sun sticks its head out from behind the clouds or you hike for some turns, pop open the side vents for a cool breeze, but keep the thigh and back pockets zipped up tight so your phone, snacks, and wallet stay safe, because you'll definitely want to snap a summit photo, eat some reindeer jerky, and buy some Swedish knick-knacks when you get back into town.
