I'm impressed with the fit and finish! So happy to have a pot of coffee at camp now! As others have mentioned I love the hinged lid.

Finally, a camp coffee pot with durability. I like the fact that the lid is hinged to the pot. I tested it on my flat top stove and just loved that the coffee was piping hot. Got the feeling this one will last a lot longer than my old aluminum one.

This pot is top's. I have been searching for a good hot cup of coffee for many years.
Stumbled on this site, pot & comments.
Happy days are back.
Issues with packaging that damaged the order were rapidly remedied.
Along with an exquisite product the service has never been better with any other retailer either brick & mortar or on-line.
4 star is a result of the shipping dept. Product & customer service deserve 5 gold stars

I bought this at a camping store. I was looking to replace my drip coffee pot. I have hard water on my farm and am replacing drip pots fequently. No more with this new stove-top percolator.

This stove-top percolator is BEAUTIFUL in 1. simplicity of use , 2. making flavorful and HOT coffee, and 3. Design--looks "country/cowboy" CHIC. Looks nice sitting on my stove. It is a classic cowboy coffee pot design made out of chic and sleek stainless steel.

Easy to clean. The simplicity of design allows me to clean the coffee pot completely, unlike those electric drip pots.

I have an old aluminum "beater" stove-top percolator for outdoor camping. While this is technically an outdoor pot, I will use it exclusively in my classic kitchen. That way, it is more likely to remain shiny and sleek looking over its life.

Note on availability. You can order online, but I wanted to "touch and feel" the pot before purchasing. To save you time, go directly to an upscale camping store. Camping stores generally have several models from which to select on the shelves. Big box stores generally do not stock them, but have them available for Internet purchase.

Awareness: it may take a little longer to brew coffee with the percolator than with a drip pot. But, I haven't really noticed much of a difference.

To review: simplicity in design, sleek cowboy/country look, and great coffee. What else could you want?

We purchased this pot to take with us when we went camping this summer. We put it to the test on both an open camp fire and on our coleman propane stove. It is well made and we appreciated the handle over the lid and the nice handle on the back of the pot. It made it easy to get the pot off the fire. There are no marks inside the pot for water, but if you read the instructions, which are included in the basket, it tells you to keep the water level just below the basket. We used one (1) tablespoon of coffee for every two (2) cups. We got the 14 cup pot, so used seven (7) tablespoons of coffee and filled with water until it was touching the bottom of the basket. (If I made the coffee, I heaped the spoons for stonger coffee. If you like a weaker cup of coffee, then use level tablespoons or adjust to your personal taste). It brewed nicely and the pot held up to the abuse of fire heat and being packed and unpacked. I would highly recommend this pot. I imagine it would do just as well if you were purchasing it to use at your house. While we were camping, we had a cheaper pot for heating water and I could definitely tell the difference between the quality of the cheaper pot and the quality of this pot. This pot is well worth the money we spent!! It will be headed out again this fall when we go hunting--can't wait!

Are the "cups" mentioned true 8 ounce cups or something less? Another way to word this...how many ounces do the 8 cup and 14 cup percolators, respectively, prepare?

One heaping Tbsp coffee per. cup of water.
Pinch of salt (about 6 grains per cup for the picky)
Never let soap near the pot or basket.
Wipe with a paper towel or clean with vinegar on occasion
Adjust to your preference after the 2nd or 3rd pot.

outstanding unit -

one flaw; the inside rim at the top of the body is VERY sharp & makes washing a bitch & painful.

It should be folded over for a smooth edge.

No excuse for the sharp edge - redo it then send me one -

I accidently broke my electric coffee makers glass carafe and decided to get an old fashioned coffee percolator. I loved that backcountry.com gives a lifetime warranty and that the entire percolator is stainless steel except the lids perk-viewer.

I was at a loss however when I found there were no instructions for brewing with the percolator. The percolator actually let me know when the coffee was finished percolating: it actually stops percolating and there is a heavenly aroma.

I use my small gas burner and make sure the flame stays under the percolator. Once it starts percolating I turn the flame lower just a bit lower and just let it perk away gently on its own until it actually stops. By the time it stops perking there is a heavenly aroma that lets everyone know IT’S COFFEE. Once it starts perking it takes about 15 -20 minutes: worth every minute! I enjoy flavored coffee beans and grind my own. I either use one or mix 2 and three different flavors for really custom coffee – absolutely delicious. I recommend grinding somewhat coarsely. By the way, I read one reviewer state they used a coffee filter and so do I; what a wonderful idea and it helps keep grinds from getting into the coffee. Just use regular filters and snip a little hole in the center to get it down the stem of the basket.

I can’t say enough good things about this percolator. It makes the absolute best coffee I have ever had. I never realized that coffee could taste so wonderful. I also never knew that coffee could be so oily; which is a good thing because the percolator has brewed the coffee properly and all of the coffees deliciousness can be enjoyed. I never experienced such a cup of coffee from any electric and am never going back to any electric coffee maker. I highly recommend this coffee percolator from backcountry.com. Anyone who gets one of these percolators will be thankful each time they drink a cup of coffee.

Again, I may need about a half-hour to make coffee but it’s worth every minute of waiting when you take your first sip. Have no doubts about choosing this coffee percolator you will be very happy you picked it and may never want to go back to electric coffee makers. I hope this review and info helps others out there in making up their minds. I have been using my percolator now for several weeks and stand by this review to be accurate and honest.

You have two options. You can call GSI at 800-704-4474 and I am sure they would gladly work something out with you. Or you can just return the item to Backcountry.com and they will send you a new one no questions asked.

Great pot! I'm really happy with my purchase , I bought 14 cup, just one thing the pot doesn't have a measuring mark for water,
which would be a nice feature.

Write your comment here...I don't think it really matters but I fill it to just below the pour spout. It is probably important to fill to the same spot every time so you get the right strength of brew. Assuming you put the same amount of coffee in.

A fine product, well made and robust for heavy... pounding. One comment though, no instructions were included on how to make a good brew for us foreigners not used to making coffee this way.
