Great with a DIY lid!

By:
November 22, 2011

Want a lid for this? Buy a can of Pepperidge Farm Pirouette cookies. The lid of the can fits snugly over this cup in order to boil water. For a handle on the lid, you can use a small drawer handle or a simple magnet and your knife blade!

I just tried this it works excellent. It's a little more snug than I'd like but it does work quite well.

decent cup.

By:
August 4, 2011

pretty light considering it is stainless steel. nests snug around the bottom of a 1Liter widemouth nalgene. did not have to add tape like the other reviewer said. will upload the pictures i have when i get a chance (although they are pre-use pics). have boiled and cooked in it over open fire and on my pocket rocket with no issues. good cup. not as light as titanium, but it is something like one quarter of the price of similarly sized one. i like it. i will continue to use it. may get a "hot lips" for it because steel mos def gets hot...

it got an extra star because it nests outside a nalgene...otherwise 3 stars

Primo cup

By:
June 27, 2011

This works great fits a little loose but a few layers of duct tape on your bottle and it fits snug and stays put. works great for boiling water and the wire handles stay cool enough so you won't have to worry about burning your paws. In all this is a great purchase if your going solo for a weekend or a week long trip.

Great mug -- big, but packs small

By:
May 15, 2008

This is a great mug. It's large, but because the handles fold and because it fits snugly around a standard 1-L Nalgene water bottle, it doesn't seem to take up any space at all in my pack. I thought the handles might be a little uncomfortable to hold, but I didn't find it to be that way at all.

Purchased 5 of these

By:
March 26, 2010

I bought the first one about a year ago. I've extensively tested it, primarily with Trangia alcohol stove and wood fire inside two different stoves ( Honey Stove & homemade woodgas stove).

It performs very well. I use regular folded aluminum foil as a lid. I then fold that into a square a place it into the bottom of the mug - which then fits my 1L Nalgene bottle perfectly.

I've purchased one for each member of my family. I've tried two other stainless cups, and they deteriorated more than this one.

Now, if only I could find a small fry-pan to match!

Two improvements would yield another star. First, measure marks would be great. Second, put the handle slightly higher up - about 1/2-3/4 of a centimeter. This makes it a little better fit for some windscreens I use, and the honey stove

Is this cup safe to use on an open fire?

I've used this cup for 3 years. Over open flame, and on camp stoves. If you keep the cup on the edge of the fire, with the handles pointed away from the flame, they will stay cool enough to use without gloves.

The first two guys are giving opinions. this cup is perfectly safe to use in a fire. Just make sure its a small fire otherwise you may need gloves or a pot lifter to remove it.

I have one of these cups on my stovetop and I use it to boil water everyday.

I have to disagree. Any non-coated, food-grade stainless steel is fine to use over an open flame.

Great Cup

By:
November 25, 2009

I really like this cup. My 32oz wide-mouth Nalgene slips into it perfectly. It's not as light as a titanium cup, but the price can't be beat, and neither can the durability. I feel a little bad about deducting a star due to weight since it's an apples-to-oranges comparison to the titanium cups, but it is heavier, so probably not a good option for the hard-core light weighters out there. If a few extra ounces isn't an issue for you then I suspect you will be happy with this cup.

GSI Stainless 18oz cup

By:
November 12, 2009

Perfect fit over a standard 1 liter water bottle, very heavy duty. You get a lot of cup for the money. The thing takes up no room if stored over your water bottle.

Nice Cup

By:
October 18, 2010

I really like this cup. I used it for the first time on a 5 day kayak trip down the Suwanee River. Placed cup directly on Primus Omni fuel stove for reheat to boil, cup showed no flame marks. Handles are long enough to remain "touchable" during reboil. 1L Nalgene fits loosely in cup. Ounce marks would be an improvement.

It works well large enough to boil water. But not alot of water. The handles stay cool and accesable. Since I used it more of a coffe mug while backpacking would have prefered a insulated mug. But then you could not cook with it. Over all a nice cup.

Great for Scouters

By:
December 3, 2009

This cup is just perfect for Boy Scouters hiking trips. It fits on the bottom of the extra 1qt bottle they carry, with very little space used. Great for day packs. Price cannot complain about.

GSI Outdoor Glacier Bottle Cup/Pot - 18fl oz.

By:
May 28, 2009

Very sturdy little pot...maybe a little heavy...but I can live with it....it's a high quality product! I also discovered that it's a perfect replacement for the aluminum(crap) pot that comes standard on the Svea 123 stove, fits it like a glove.

Love it!

This cup is great. Could be used to boil water for one if wanted. Not as light as a titanium cup, but it's a fraction of the cost for one. Can't beat the price of this cup. I've put this cup through alot of abuse and it's held up great. Makes a great whiskey cup as well. Buy it and you'll be happy.

These do not fit on the most common nalgene bottle made in america. Yes they are sturdy but they do not nest.

I've read postings that the most recent GSI 18oz cup does not fit with a standard 1.0L Nalgene. Has anyone bought one recently? Does it still fit?

The one I bought fits fine over a standard 1-L nalgene bottle so the one you have is probably an odd size bottle.
