I've used every generation of the Black Diamond ice screws, from the originals up to the current Turbo Express screws. I like them. However, the Grivel 360 definitely brings something new to the game. First, the 360s are amazingly sharp, even compared to a new Turbo Express. 360s are amazingly easy to drive, and the harder the ice the more you notice how much nicer they are to sink. Second, the crank handle is more, uh, forgiving of my failure to perfectly clear the path for the screw. The crank can work around ice bumps and inadequately blasted corners to get a placement where I'd be chipping more ice for a Turbo Express. 360s are equally easy for the second to remove. Very nice. In exchange, they don't necessarily rack well with an Ice Clipper full of Turbo Express screws. Since I now have only one 360, it rides a separate 'biner, but I wonder how well 360s will group on a Clipper. Also, I find the 360 a bit harder to clip, though part of that is lack of experience. I keep forgetting to flip down the crank before clipping... A friend has 360s as well, but his older ones have an integral quickdraw, which made clips dead easy. I think I'll get used to the new one as well. I'm certainly not ready to abandon my Turbo Express screws, but I like the 360, and predict I will get a couple more for my rack.
