Zulu 40L Backpack

The Gregory Zulu 40L Backpack blurs the lines between a giant day pack for long-haul single day hikes and a fast-and-light overnighter for quick trips in the backcountry. It features Gregory's proprietary FreeFloat system that incorporates an adjustable torso length into its open-air backpanel to maximize space between your back and the pack to help keep things cool and comfortable. FreeFloat flex panels allow the hipbelt to flex and pivot with your body on the trail for a floating sensation that handles your load with ease. Gregory also placed EVA foam along the hips and shoulder harness to keep your load comfortable when you're on the trail.

Packing and organizing gear in the Zulu is made easy with the large U-zip access panel. Additionally, the durable front stash pocket is an ideal spot to store any extra layers or maps you might need quick access to. Side mesh pockets accommodate your water bottles and snacks while the top zippered pocket and sunglasses attachment points allow you to keep your smaller items handy. Gregory also threw in an integrated rain cover, so you'll always be ready for those right-on-cue afternoon rain showers that like to frequent the alpine.

zulu 40

Comfortable pack. Using as a longer distance day pack. Packing food and extra clothes for fall inclement weather. Have not heavy loaded yet, but appears like good suspension and comfortable belt. Nice layout of pockets and compartments.

A Camino Lifesaver

Zulu 40 on 2 Camino hikes, both a month long. Love the features, loved the durability. You can't hurt this bag. Stuffing it works great. Comes with waterproof wrap that's easy to put on and stays in place. Love the belt strap pockets, perfect for a little tech in easy reach of hikes. Cant' say enough good things about this pack

Awesome Kit

I purchased the Zulu 40 for an upcoming international distance hike and have already taken it out twice. This is my third Gregory pack and I have never been disappointed; however, the Zulu 40 really exceeded my expectations. My first practice trek was 8.4 miles and I hardly noticed it on my back. This past Saturday I hiked over 15 miles in high temperatures at Kennesaw Mountain National Park and it really proved its mettle. I can't imagine a better pack for long distance hikes. Once you fit and adjust it to you, it can help you go the distance. There may be lighter options, but based on my experience with prior Gregory packs, the durability makes the extra ounces worth it. Their knowledgeable and responsive customer service stands out as well.

The packs get better and better

I bought the Zulu 40 as a replacement for my 15-year old Gregory Advent Pro, a very versatile pack which I have taken all over the world. (Its fabric finally gave way after too much tropical sun). The Zulu 40 is a giant upgrade of my old pack. It retails the basic design, and adds a very lightweight frame, better zippers, fewer complex straps (I cut off several in the Advent Pro, as they got in the way), stand-up convenience, easier access, quicker fastenings, integral rain cover. Wow. Good for you, Gregory--keep the best designs and continually improve them.

Zulu 40L

Light weight for 40L, carries like a 30L & packs like a 50L. Berry well constructed. My new go-to pack for everything

The right size for the job

The bag worked great, I needed a little more space for a hike out the Bright Angel trail after a rafting trip, my 30L pack was too tight and the 55L felt like a lot of wasted space and weight. The pack was comfortable in late June heat and held all my gear. Love the sunglass holder on the shoulder strap.

The best pack for my needs!

Fantastic features for my longer day hikes and weekenders. I’m glad I have sunglasses holder with the pull strap, the easy access to the body of the pack as well as the top pocket, inside pockets and flexible outside pocket. The vented back keeping me cooler than most other packs I’ve owned. What I like the most is the better hip belt with a larger strap which puts more weight on my hips and less on my shoulders and back than other daypacks I’ve owned.

Zulu40

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This backpack is very comfortable to carry, the burden on the back is very small, and the process of traveling is very pleasant.

load distribution and comfort.

Took a 5 mile day hike to test it out. Load included jeans, shorts, 6 long sleeve T- shirts, a short T-shirt and two water bottles. hardly noticed I was carrying anything, except my back was moist (not soaked) - temp was 70 F. Very happy with the purchase.
