The lightweight Z 35-R Backpack features Gregory’s rugged Jetstream DTS ventilating suspension system, and with 2,135-cubic-inches of storage this backpack is ideal for a long day hike or a quick overnighter. Gregory's Jet Stream suspension system features aperforated frame sheet and a mesh back panel to increase air flow so you don't sweat to death underneath your pack. Aluminum stays provide lightweight but sturdy vertical load support, and scapula and lumbar pads make carrying your gear more comfortable. Both the waist-belt and harness have moisture-wicking mesh to keep you dry underneath your straps. Access your gear through the roll-top lid. Stash anything you want within easy reach, such as a shell or energy bars, in the Z 35’s external pockets or the waist-belt pockets. Water-resistant zippers help keep light precipitation away from your gear. The high-quality ripstop nylon combines durability and low weight.

Bottom Line: Load your gear into the Z 35 Backpack and get outside to play.

Love it !
Only problem, the back support wires have moved and don't stay in place anymore so it hurts my shoulder... Wonder if it's guaranteed ?
But overall... awesome backpack and size is just perfect for carry-on luggage on the plane !

theres a difference in the weights, the M. z35 is 3lb2oz, while the M. atmos is 2lb13oz. the atmos has a bucket pocket - great for a rain jacket, while the z35 has a zip pocket great for safe storage of smaller items. The Volumes are basically the same. Truth is it's a tough question to answer I love gregory since I have had great experiences with their packs, while osprey has a great reputation as well. Both companies are said to stand behind their products. Ultimately packs are like shoes - you need to try on a few pair and eventually you know which companies provide a cut that works for your body. Best advice I can offer considering BC remarkably easy return policy order both. When they arrive fill them with "your gear" and add extra weight for food so it equals the total weight of all the items you normally lug on your hikes. Play with the straps and stroll around the block, up and down stairs, jump around a bit and then decide. Just keep them clean and leave the tags on them to be respectful so BC can sell the pack you return.

I've been using this Gregory as a day pack for two years now and I can't find anything I don't like about it. I've used it on numerous summer and winter trips at sea level and above 5,000 feet. It had enough space for plenty of water, food, warming layers and any kinda of tools you may need. The pack is light enough for me, but may not suit the ultra-light die hards out there. I chose the Onyx color and am happy with it because it does not show dirt stains on the bottom of the pack as lighter colors do.

I have not gotten the pack completely soaked, but it has survived a light shower and performed well. The Jetstream works very well. I tend to sweat a lot all year round and I enjoy not having a soaked back while wearing a pack. The suspension system also works quite well, but nothing out of the ordinary. I'm a big fan of hip belt pockets and the ones Gregory uses work well.

If I had a gripe, I guess my only one would be that there is no specific place to store trekking poles. I like how Osprey has an "on the go" trekking pole holster attached to the harness on some of their daypacks. I hope Gregory catches on to this soon because it makes for fluid movement on the trail when ascending peaks. Besides that little nit pick, great pack, great fit.
