High Quality Backcountry Pack

I bought this for my husband last year who wanted to get into Backcountry skiing. The first time he took it with all his gear, he fell in love! He said it was incredibly light and comfortable, he kept forgetting he had it on. Unfortunately, it didn't end up snowing as much as we'd hoped it would this last year, but he still used it when skiing in bounds at resorts. Now that it is summer, he still uses it every day just to take it to the gym, that's how much he loves it! It was definitely worth the purchase, if I went back and could get him another pack, I wouldn't. One of my favorite purchases from Backcountry.

By the way, I got it in Orange and it is unreal!

I would like to buy this pack for my boyfriend. He is 5'7" 160lb and has a small frame... Should I buy him a small or medium?

    Hey Laura,

In order to get the proper size and fit, you'll need his torso length. Once you have his torso length, you can match it up with the sizing chart and order the size necessary.

    Best BC pack I've used

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Gregory made a great pack with the Targhee and I'm constantly recommending this to people when they ask about a good touring backpack. It's incredibly well thought out, from the helmet carrier to the way ski poles and ice axes sit on the pack. The front panel is perfectly laid out for avy gear, the main pocket easily fits a bladder, a couple of layers and crampons, and the top pouch is perfect for goggles, snacks and a flask. I can even carry my SLR easily if I pack well.

I have used it for short tours, long days, mixed ski mountaineering and trips to the gym. In short, I'm a big fan. My only grip is that the ice ax and pole attachment clips are a little small to squeeze with really cold fingers. Aside from that, it's pretty close to perfect.
