Unanswered Question

where is this bag made?

fantastic bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I used this bag all summer going on trips for a camp I run. It has more than enough space for clothes plus some other gear and the straps make carrying super easy. Its my new go to travel bag over my backpack. The bag has held up well with a summer of use. The fabric has almost zero wear to it. It also cleans out nicely and doesn't hold much stink from a week of slightly damp clothes from the river.

This is an awesome bag. For the most part it's just a typical duffel, simple and spacious. But the little extra features like cinch straps on either end, zippered outside pocket, and shoulder straps make it that much more functional and convenient for traveling. I used to use backpacking style backpacks for the majority of my traveling, but have since discovered that if you don't need to carry it on your back for miles you can really make packing and living out of your bag much easier by having a bag like this for car camping, flying, road trips, etc. Can't comment on longevity as I've only owned it for a little while, but it seems very well built and the material seems nice and sturdy.

Roomy, Easy to Carry

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag has a ton of space! There aren't any internal pockets, but you can stuff a bunch of gear inside. The straps work well as backpack straps and allow you to carry your gear whichever way is most comfortable for you.
The bag is made of durable fabric and the padding on the top of the bag adds a bit of protection to whatever you stuff in the bag.
Great bag for travel and for storing your gear.

Almost, but not quite

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this bag from another retailer (sorry bc, it was much cheaper) and am planning on returning it and buying Patagonia's Black Hole 45 instead. Initial impressions: I liked the muted color for travel, the size seemed right for what I was looking for (two weeks in S. America) and I liked the duffel/backpack combo. After packing and unpacking several times and walking some distance using the backpack function I wouldn't dream of taking this on my travels where I might need to actually use this as a backpack to walk any distance. I think the top of the backpack straps are placed too low for comfort and as another reviewer said, just isn't comfortable as a backpack.

Other things I didn't love: there are no internal pockets of any kind and there is A LOT of excess webbing that does not serve a purpose, especially on the top synching feature. Once you get the webbing secured so it doesn't catch on anything getting back into the pack is a pain. If this were the only flaw of the pack design I'd just hem the straps, but this is not the case.

If you're looking for an easy carry-on duffel or something to throw in the back of the truck for road trips this will be a great pack. It just it's going to work for me.

Use it every day

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Literally can fit my entire bedroom in the 65L, carry it on all vacations. as well as every day to work as i commute and go play in the woods after work, Backpack straps are sick! it has a very rugged construction fit for a every day outdoorsman or a carry-on bag!

Note: This is a Duffel that Packs Down

First impression:
Duffel looks plenty durable, large enough for 3-4 days worth of clothes, padded shoulder straps are comfortable enough for full loads, and this thing packs down small. I had to pass on this duffel because I needed something more rigid.

I included a photo because this duffel is actually a packable design that comes in a stuff sack.

Gregory Stash Duffel Bag

This thing is so close to being perfect. I initially ordered the 45 L and 65L because I was not sure what size I needed. I found that the 65L was way to big and would only work as a checked bag. The 45L was perfect size for an longer trip, while still being a carry-on. The only problem I found- was that if using the bag as a backpack (the handle turns into two backpack straps) - the bag had to be fully loaded to be comfortable, if you had room to spare, the bag was not symmetrical, and was not comfortable on your back. Also no waist belt, which was one thing I wanted. I had to return both bags, but If you are looking for more of a duffle, a perfect size, and don't need the backpack straps, this is the bag for you. Super durable and super lightweight
