Keep Your Pack Dry

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This does as it is supposed to. It keeps your pack dry when you need it to, and when you don't...it stuffs into a small stuff sack and can be placed out of the way.

I use this with a Gregory Z55 and use the size small.

Tight Fit!!!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I bought this for a Arcteryx Bora 65 pack. I bought the Med and when I received it I stuffed a few items in the pack just to fill it out so I could check the fit. Well it will cover it.....barely! Fully stuffed or with anything attached to the outside and it's a no-go. I already ordered a Large and will most likely return the Med.

The sizing is shown as a Med fitting a 60-80L pack so I figured it would easily accommodate my 65L bag. Don't be fooled the sizing is way small. Figure out what size it says you should get and order one size larger.

Pretty good for certain bags.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First off, some comments about sizing and compatibility. I sized way up in order to make sure the pack cover was wide enough to protect the tent I usually strap to the outside of my pack. This sort of worked, though the solution left me wishing I had sized up even more. It covered the tent but left the sides of the pack a bit exposed. Not ideal.

There is also an issue with fitting. You need to make sure that your bag is not flat bottomed, other wise the elastic will just slide off the bottom of the pack instead of wrapping around against the pack below your waistbelt. Same applies for the top.

Other than these issues, the cover does a great job of keeping your crap dry. Fitting issues just make it a bit difficult to use. I'd imagine it is compatible with most standard expedition packs, but less so universal with day packs and smaller volume bags. Also helps if your pack is full and not half empty..

this covers it

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great pack cover, as well made as the pack. Xtra-large for the denali. Well thought out design. Hated to spend the money after buying the pack but I'm glad I did. Just wish they offered it in green or and I hate to say it camo. Don't hate me, just don't like to stand out like a sore thumb in the woods. You can see a lot if you're not seen.

Good but Size Up!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a Gregory Z65 and I bought the medium and it works well, but I wish I would have upsized a size because it gets pretty tight when I start attaching things to outside of the pack. I love it other than my mistake, it has great weather protection and the blue is really awesome!

Good but Size Up!

Works well

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This worked great for me backpacking through Europe where we experienced 10 - 14 days of rain. Everything inside stayed bone dry. Water will still run down the between you and the backpack, but assuming you have rain gear on it shouldn't be a problem. It is a bit expensive, but it's a quality product as with everything from Gregory. I havent' had a bad experience yet with the company and I have 3 of their bags. They're simply awesome.

Works well

Very Large

I bought a small cover for my 45L pack and it is WAY too large. The sizing chart is inaccurate. I should have bought an XS. I don't know how well it will work since it is so loose on my pack.

    SIZE is confusing

I can't honestly give much opinion on function but the sizing would confuse anyone.

      According to Gregory website:
      Size Volume Weight Dimensions
      XS 20-35 L
      S 35-60 L
      M 60-80 L
      L 80-100 L
      XL 100-120 L
The label on the one I just received says XS 55-65L. I ordered the XS thinking it would fit a 34L pack. I guess it is a good thing I own a 65L it will fit also.

If I was rating the experience of purchasing with all of the confusion I would give it a 1. The cover looks like it will do a fair job so I gave it 3.

      Measured size of xs

H 32" x W 20" x D 8". It's a lot larger than I expected. Doing the math brings it to 83L but the little pack sack says 55L-65L. It's definitely less than 83L because it tapers (I don't have good perception of volume numbers so I can't give you a guesstimate of it's volume size). I don't have a backpacking backpack but from the looks of it, it is definitely larger than a typical school backpack and won't fit my friends medium backpacking backpack. With my best guess I ordered it hoping it will work for a bag I have that measures 16"x18"x8". I ordered the black xs and it didn't have the cinch cord that are in the pictures. Just an elastic band with a loop on one side and a velcro strap on the other. I'm waiting for customer service to email me information if the other xs in the warehouse have the same setup. **Update** They said the black model does not have the cinch cord but the blue does like the photos.

        Pleasantly surprised

I didn't expect this thing to pack up so small. I got the medium to go with my size medium Gregory Triconi 60L pack, and it's a great combo. Nice sturdy coverage and enough room to fit it over the pack when I have my tent poles and sleeping pad lashed to the outside of the pack. The quality is great and it's a well thought out design. I'm not into the bright blue color so much, I like more natural/muted colors, but for safety purposes and stuff I can't really complain. Plus, as mentioned below, it looks better than a trash bag ;)

          Grand Canyon Winter Hike

Pack Cover worked great. It fit snug and never came off like many of my covers in the past. The Velcro strap really helps with securing the cover. It was dropped down on ice, snow, mud, and sharp rocks and the cover looks good as new

          Grand Canyon Winter Hike

          Untested, but looks great.

I live in a very dry state, so I have not had a chance to test it. However, it is very well made, simple, and appears to be effective. I bought the Large to work with my Gregory Z55 and REI 78 liter pack. Cover is a bit large for the z55, but it seems to work. Plus if I strap anything on the outside it'll be able to cover that as well.

            Does the Job...

I have the Gregory Palisade 80 Backpack and the large cover. It JUST fits when the back is loaded, I should have bought the XL. But it still works and does the job. I use it every night to cover my back from rain and dew. Packs up small into it's own case. It's always with me on hikes. And looks so muck cooler then a trash bag...

I just ordered a Men's Baltoro 65 in medium, what size cover would you suggest for it?

              Thanks

              Best Answer

Amap, I have the Gregory z65 and I have the Large and have plenty of room. The Baltoro 65 is 3900 cu in. so a medium, which covers packs from 3700 - 4900 cu. in. should fit fine. I bought the large because I usually have stuff that I strap to the bottom like my solo tent and other gear usually. You might want to consider that. Additionally, I didn't want to have to buy two covers for both my z65 and larger 80L Palisades so I just went up. I haven't had a problem with it and this cover synches down really well in two places. One is through the back area and elastic draw string on the top. Hope this helps.

I use a baltoro 65 and I strap my thermorest z lite to the outside of the pack and I recently bought a large size Gregory pack cover thinking it would cover everything but was not wide enough and left the sides exposed. Would an xl solve this problem or would I run into the same issue? Is the width about the same and just longer with the xl?

Can this work as an air porter bag as well?

No, this isn't actually a bag, it's just a cover. It has elastic edges that are pulled over the front, top, bottom, and sides of the pack to protect it from rain. The part of your pack that's against your back doesn't get covered. If you don't mind your shoulder straps hanging out I guess you could use it as an air porter bag (at least all the zippers and stuff would be covered), but most people would probably prefer to have something that encloses the whole pack if they're going through airports.
