Whether or not John Muir would’ve taken a laptop with him as he hiked is unclear, but he would have had the option with the Gregory Muir 24 Daypack. The padded second compartment of the Muir insulates your water reservoir as you hike, but also fits a laptop for expeditions to the eighth floor office. For scientists that hike to collect data in the field (or serious bloggers), the rugged Muir could be the perfect mix of work and play.

  • 3D foam back panel and harness are cool and comfortable despite the load
  • Offset zipper lets the main compartment open wide so you can pack and unpack with ease
  • Stowable hip-belt secures the Muir as you traverse the hills
  • Gear loops and compression straps attach climbing gear and / or skis for alpine adventures
  • Interior mesh organizer holds your smaller items so you don’t lose your lucky pen

Bottom Line: Muir would’ve been a hardcore blogger.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Do everything pack

This bag does it all. Good for school/work as well as long day hikes. Waist straps are minimal but functional, and they tuck away so they wont swing everywhere. Compression straps are a nice addition, as well as 2 loops to clip random items on the outside. Big for a 24 L pack.

The front pocket will fit shoes/sandals, some snacks, first aid kit, or other random essentials. Back pocket is padded and a bit thin. It is great for a laptop and books during the week and then water bladder on the weekend. The middle pocket is the biggest. I keep my lunch or extra clothes/jacket in there. All the pockets open up nice and wide which makes getting things in and out a breeze.

There isn't much internal organization, but a zipper pocket in the main pocket is pretty large. The back pocket also has 2 pockets for small item storage. And a side pouch can fit a nalgene, but its tight.

Only negative for me are the shoulder straps and back panel. They are well padded and contoured, but a little stiff for my liking. Perhaps they will wear in a bit after some more use.

Does this fit a hydration reservoir and a laptop at the same time? Will it fit a 17-inch laptop?
