Here's what others have to say...

Does this pack have full access to the main compartment from the front of bottom? Just wondering for as far as easy access goes when carrying a lot of stuff & not wanting to unload everything from the top if I need something near the bottom/middle.

This pack has full access to the main compartment from the front. There is also an access point to the main compartment from INSIDE the bottom compartment.

I love the Jade!

The Jade 38 is an awesome backpack for daypack use, plane travel, or shorter backpacking excursions.

I've had it for almost 3 years now and it is just barely starting to show some wear along the seams of the front zipper pocket. Easily reparable.

I worked near Mt. Hood for 3 summers and would spend 3-4 nights camping on Mt. Hood. The Jade had enough room and straps to take everything I needed up with me. For longer adventures I bought the Gregory Deva 70. Nowadays I use the Jade on weekend car camping trips and as a day pack for climbing.

Awesome medium sized pack that really lets you pack on the equipment that you need. I'm 5'3 and went with a size medium.

The Jade and I Halloween weekend (hence the fox tail) in Indian Creek!

I love the Jade!

Great day pack!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use this pack all of the time as my go to weekend camping trip or day pack. I can fit all of my essientials (sleeping bag, tent, pillow, clothes, cooler weather gear, pot set).
Its definitely a diverse use pack. I've taken it all over the place and haven't had any problems. Easy on the back, breathable, easy to adjust, lost of pockets, and comes with rain fly. Also has a pocket to put a bladder in. Great pack!

Great day pack!

Easy and helpful guide to measuring yourself for the right size backpack...

Jade Ventilated Hiking

Ranging from larger daypacks for light and fast overnights to small packs for a quick out-and-back hike, the Z and Jade hiking packs deliver. The suspension can handle up to 35lbs with ease. A curved, hybrid Wire Wishbone frame stiffens against the framesheet as more weight is loaded, allowing the pack to properly and efficiently transfer the weight directly to the lumbar pad and your hips.

A pleasure to carry

Very comfy. Lots of pockets. Cool trampoline back (more air than the bigger Jades) to keep to prevent sweat... rigid X-stays which makes it easy to carry. 2 mesh zip hip pockets. Hipbelt feels great hugging hips and putting the weight onto my legs and off my back. Adjustable shoulder straps, load lifter, and chest strap. Front vertical pocket, a drawstring top covered by a top cap with zip on top and underneath (bigger Jades only have one on top) Has a fully separated bottom compartment, unlike bigger Jades... too small for a sleeping bag but maybe a sleep sack or other quick access things. Vertical zip quick access pocket, a horseshoe zip for accessing the main pack quickly without undoing the drawstring and top lid clips, to get something small out. Mesh pockets on the side good for water bottles and the compression keeps the water bottles secure so it doesn't fall out or rip pockets. Unlike bigger Jades, it comes with a rainfly in its own compartment. Standard hydration pocket, two loops for axes, walking pole loops. Top is not detachable like bigger Jades, and there aren't any sleeping pad hookups for the outside (like bigger jades). Comes in S and M, no XS, I use the XS in other Gregory, but this one in S feels fine. Not an adjustable back length like Osprey. Narrow profile so it's a bit lengthy, so if you have a helmet on it might be hard to look up, but not horribly restrictive. Use this for climbing, not backpacking. Haven?t had to carry all the gear plus a rope, but I think it can. Roomier than my bookbag and doesn?t feel like the zipper will burst. If I were to backpack with a tent, sleeping bag, and climbing gear I'd go w/ a bigger pack.

Won't regret this pack

I love this pack. I have used other packs through gear rental stores that were larger and heavier, this pack was the perfect size for me. It's very lightweight on it's own and has plenty of space if you have highly compressible gear. My down bag fits in the sleeping bag compartment with extra room around the sides so I tend to put my insulated Thermarest pad there instead. It's small enough to use as a daypack but I've taken it on three-night trips. Be forewarned, it would be a little small if you really need to pack a lot of food and water if you can't restock at your destination. Having said that, I wish that Gregory would offer the Crossflo mesh panel on their larger packs - this feature is available only on their Jade 38 and Z40 packs as far as I know. The Crossflo suspension features a tightly pulled mesh net on the back of the pack that vastly improves ventilation over the usual foam grooves that you see on heavier and more expensive packs.

Lucky purchase

I am in love with this pack! It is comfortable and very secure, the adjustable straps are very easy to modify. The sleeping bag compartment IS very tiny and the side water compartments are definitely not as functional as they could be (but this is not a problem unique to this bag) I wish I could give it a 4.5, because I really do love the way this bag is thought out and put together, and the back ventilation is brilliant.

Awesome pack with a few minor exceptions

I have this pack and love it. It straps down tight and the suspension is great - you can bounce all over the place and the bag goes wherever you do. My only complaints are: the sleeping bag compartment is pretty small - I reeeaaaally have to cram it in there. Also, the side straps go over the mesh pockets, so they're pretty useless for carrying anything you really need quick access to. Other than that, a great weekend pack!

the back pads........

love the pack, took it fast's the perfect size, but what is up with the HARD pads that sit in the lower/center back? I don't know if I need to get used to them or if they just suck.
They are so HARD! I love the pack's 4 stars sometimes, 5 stars some other times!
Looking for some feedback.......

What are the dimensions of this backpack?...

What are the dimensions of this backpack? I need to know length x width x height so I can check it against some other gear I own.

Length is about 21 inches, which if you need it for carry on sizing, it works.
