Thanks to its pre-curved, women’s specific suspension system, the Gregory Deva 70 Backpack comfortably hauls multi-day loads from the High Sierra to the Appalachian Trail. Multiple access points, tons of organizational space, and the fact that it doesn’t stink or snore make the Deva 70 the ideal hiking partner.

  • Response AFS system allows hip belt to pivot independently, giving you added range of motion
  • Top lid, side zipper, and sleeping bag access to get your gear quickly
  • Two-layer reinforced bottom for added durability
  • 3D pre-curved harness and waist belt for ergonomic comfort
  • Tons of exterior pockets for small-item organization
  • Exterior compression straps for attaching extra gear

Bottom Line: Big-load hauling for backcountry Devas.

Was looking at this pack and the Gregory Jade 60, and was wondering

Was looking at this pack and the Gregory Jade 60, and was wondering if the packs' materials are strong enough to withstand being checked as cargo on flights. Has anyone tried this or knows if it can be done repeatedly without damage to the packs?

The fabric is pretty tough - but those baggage handlers are pretty rough too. I wouldn't be so concerned about the fabric as the straps, buckles, and suspension system getting caught in the several transfers and conveyor belts a piece of luggage goes through. One alternative I've found to work quite well is a cheap duffle bag (REI sells them) to just toss your bag in to keep everything from getting snagged. I know its a hassle - but it'll seem like drinking a nice cold beer if your waist belt gets ripped off in Bangladesh.

Durability and design

I took the deva (85, not 70) on a month-long backpacking NOLS trip last summer in the Rockies and it truly was a fantastic hiking partner. The extra organizational space made my expedition mates jealous, and kept essentials like extra bug spray, chapstick, sunscreen, foot kit close at hand. It's made with exceptional quality, and shows very little wear even after the rough beating it received. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a pack with a fantastic design and durability to match.

You need to have someon measure your torso length and then see the sizing chart to find your size. I'm guessing you're an XS based off your height, but it would be good to measure anyways. Measurement is generally from the 7th cervical vertebrae (the bony protrusion on the back of your neck) down to the line of your iliac crest (the tops of the pelvic "wings"). For detailed instructions, go to gregory's website.

Finally gregory made a 70 L women's pack

By:

The main reason why I got this pack is because it was on steepandcheap.com for less than $150.
I have a Gregory deva 60 from 6 years ago and realized that it was too small in volume. Then two years ago I got the Gregory Deva 85 and thought it was too big in volume. Unfortunately that pack got torn apart by a bear (my fault), so it gave me the excuse to finally get the 70 L version, which ends up being the right size in my opinion for an all around pack whether it is for a weekend trip or a week long. If you need more room than that for just a regular week long backpacking trip then you are packing more than you need. Only thing I didn't like about the 70L compared to the 85L is that the lid in the 70L doesn't have straps so that you can use it as a day pack. Also the 70L doesn't have the rubberized bottom that the 85L or my 6 year old Gregory has. Other than that I am 5'1 and 115 lbs and got the size small, which fits perfect. Honestly though, everyone should try a backpack on in person loaded with weight before buying it. All packs are different. If I had to get a pack at full price, I probably wouldn't get this one, I'd get an Arc'teryx.
