We've all been there—a rainstorm blows in and you're emptying out your pack, trying to get your rain jacket, then stuffing everything back in before it gets drenched. No more of that thanks to Gregory's Women's Cairn 48 Backpack and its Trail Smart Packing System. The intuitive design allows you to access the pack from three different ares for access to different types of gear throughout the day. The first large zone is designed for camping gear like your tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat. The second is for items like your water filter, rain jacket, and lunch, which can be accessed from the front of the pack. The last zone can be accessed from the side, and is excellent for things you need quick while you hike such as maps, camera, and a quick snack. In addition to this zoned design, the pack also features a water-resistant roll-top lid for dry storage, two side pockets, and a hydration system-compatible design.

The pack also features Gregory's popular Response LT suspension system and Wishbone Wire frame, which directs the load of the pack to the wearer's hips for a comfortable fit and feel. Contoured back panels fitted with a breathable mesh spacer keep your back well ventilated when you're trucking up sunny switchbacks, and the low-profile, four-layer shoulder straps keep the weight of the pack down while providing a comfortable and cool feel. Pull on the attached rain cover when an unexpected storm rolls through the high country.

Great multi-purpose pack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this bag! I've used it both as a travel backpack (if packed strategically it fits within carry-on dimensions for most airlines) and as a hiking bag on overnight/weekend trips and can't sing its praises enough. It is light, comfortable, and supportive... definitely a bag I'll be using for years to come.
My only complaint is that the pockets on the hip belt are too small to stash anything useful.
