Alpinisto 35L Backpack

Gregory's Alpinisto 35 Backpack is a technical pack designed for climbers, alpinists, and ski mountaineers. Its Fusion Flex suspension system consists of a single aluminum frame stay, stable HDPE frame sheet, and dual-density padding along the shoulders and hips to keep the pack comfortable when you're hauling heavy loads. When reaching the summit means you'll have to shed weight, the stay, framesheet, and hipbelt can all be removed to trim an additional pound-and-a-bit from the pack, which adds up when you're putting away 4,000 vertical feet in a single mile.

The Alpinisto has a traditional top-loading design, but Gregory threw in a side zipper for added convenience when you need quick access to waterproof layers. There are slots, straps, and pockets for skis, climbing ropes, ice axes, crampons, ice clippers, and more climbing gear. Better still, this pack also has a hydration sleeve with a locking zip hose port to help protect the hose from freezing up, sled pull loops on the hipbelt for easy gear hauling, and compression straps to lock your load when the Alpinisto isn't stuffed to the brim.

Excellent pack all around. Used as a performance single day climbing pack and for overnight backpack.

Great pack design but one flaw

I enjoy every feature of this pack for my winter mountaineering adventures. It’s easy to pack and the side entry zipper gives me easy access to my insulated water bottles. There is a flaw though with the coating on the inside of the pack. I’m assuming it’s a coating for waterproofing. It’s flaking off and rubbing off after only one time using the pack. It’s not too huge of an issue for me, as I don’t really require this pack to be waterproof or water resistant. It is however making a mess on the gear that I pack in it.

Perfect!

Not much to say other then Gregory knows what they are doing when it comes to making packs. They are one of the best brands on the market for serious backpackers. Go with it.

Love this pack for alpinism; cool color

I have a lot of packs. This pack has it all for alpinism. I used this on a handful of 14ers this past season, with a focus on scrambling and nonstandard routes, after I decided my other packs weren't cutting it. Not much else to say that hasn't already been said, this pack is well regarded. Do measure yourself for sizing! I ended up being a medium, after trying a large. You want head mobility when you are hanging on for your life, figuring out your next handhold. I'd like to speak to the color, Lichen Green. It threads the needle between safety and being easy on the eyes, which is difficult. Yes, the green and orange colors are the colors of lichens. For comparison, I would say an old tennis ball could show a similar color. Speaking of which, it does dirty fairly easily. But I should mention that out in the hills I have gotten a number of compliments on the color. Overall, I am quite happy with it.

Superb Pack

Really great pack! Fit is superb, tons of useful/necessary features, super comfortable, outstanding construction, and just the right size for a good day's ski. We researched lots of packs, and this one was the hands down standout!

The alpinisto is a great mid-sized pack for mountaineering, hiking, even skiing. I like the minimal design, one main pocket, the upper “brain” is easily removable, and the exterior crampon pocket is lined with sturdy fabric to stand up to abuse from sharp tools. The downsides - there are no load stabilization straps on the hip belt, you can get a similar effect by adjusting the attachment buckles and effectively shortening the hip belt, but it’s a bit fiddley. Also, you can have the pack in any colour you want, as long as you want that electric green! I like the colour, it stands out in a storm, I think hi viz is great in the mountains, but if you want to blend in, this ones not for you!
