Stratus Latitude Backpack - 4800 cu in

The Granite Gear Stratus Latitude 4800 pushes the boundaries of light packing performance. Ultralight packs can only carry minimal loads (20-30 pounds), and don't necessarily carry them in the most comfortable manner possible. Yet there are plenty of backpackers who need a pack with more volume and weight-carrying capacity, built with beefier fabrics to hold up to the rigors of a harsh environment. Weighing in at under 5 pounds, yet easily capable of hauling a 50-pound load comfortably, the Stratus Latitude belongs to a new generation of lightweight AND functional multi-day backpacks. Granite Gear's indestructible 3D molded Tepex frame, used in the largest of packs (up to 7000 cubic inch monsters), provides incredible support and a perfect fit on nearly any body type and size. Other cool features include a full front loading system that makes access to anything in the pack a snap (compression straps hold everything in place when the zips are open), hydration compatibility, and an internal zip-off lid.

Bottom Line: Room to swallow gear like 4-season tents, sub-zero sleeping bags, and enough food for a week in a super lightweight, comfortable pack-unheard of!

Carries very well. Lightweight for its volume. Best feature is accessibility. Worse is that there are no pockets- a problem for the organizationally challenged. (There is a lid pocket of sorts- but not accessible without opening the pack.)

For me this pack does a fair portion of it all. Long weekends are cool because the weight and compression system keep it from being huge overkill for a few days. It also bridges in to week long treks with only minimal work on the packing. I have packed it up to 45lbs and did a week with a buddy and had only one small problem. If you wear hard pants, like canvas, the hip belt and the pants will eat a hole in your hip, not alot of fun but not a problem with the pack itself. It was the only pack I needed all summer, and it was at least a pound lighter than my buddies smallest weekend pack, my favorite part.
