The quintessential outdoor bed.

The Grand Trunk Single Parachute Hammock makes for a simple, off-the-ground place to sleep, and it packs down to the size of a softball, so it's extremely easy to tote. Set it up for desert camping or when you just want a nice place to relax around your car campsite. The high-strength parachute material is mildew-resistant and triple-reinforced at all weight-bearing points.

The everyday type

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This hammock is awesome, and super comfy and durable. I am rather tall (6'3") and I fit in this hammock and then some. Its also plenty wide enough to fit you and a friend! Or a dog or two!

Love this hammock!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was debating purchasing the ENO SingleNest Hammock instead of this one, but a review from OutdoorGearLab convinced me otherwise. I'm happy with my decision.

I love the lightweight parachute material. I didn't like the rope that came with the hammock to hang it on trees - there's no padding so there's a greater chance of the rope slipping on the tree or damaging the tree. I ended up buying the Grand Trunk TreeSling to use with this instead. The carabiners are heavy duty (and just plain heavy), so if you're worried about weight (or going ultralight) I'd suggest getting some wire gate carabiners to replace them. It's super easy to remove the existing carabiners.

The rope and fabric stretches considerably (mostly the rope) once you start to climb in it, but not in a flimsy way. The materials are strong and can hold my 220# body with ease, but I do have to initially hang the hammock at chest height to stay off the ground when I climb in it. This could also be because the trees I used to set it up were pretty far apart. Once you're in, the sides wrap around you and appear as if they could almost seal you in. If there was a zipper that ran along the edges securing both sides together, this could be a comfortable solution for a bug-free enclosure. My 3 nephews really enjoy swinging in this hammock (together) and it holds up to their shenanigans easily.

I would have given 5 stars if the carabiners that came with it were nicer and lighter, and if the straps that came with it were the Grand Trunk TreeSlings, but for the price I can't complain.

Love this hammock!

I take it everywhere

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I literally take this everywhere when I know I'm gunna be outside and have a place to hang it up. The single is perfect for me at 6'3 200lbs and have even had two people sleep comfortably in it (if you like to cuddle.) As others have said the carabiners are a tad heavy but you can easily replace them but it packs back into the pocket great. Another great feature is it does come with some strong cord to hang unlike the enos, however, it can be hard to find the right gap between trees to set up. I greatly recommend getting the tree straps GT sells for about $20. With them you can set up anywhere with easy and the have a tree saver pad so you don't scar the tree or have to fear of slipping.

hammock time anytime

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I carry this thing in my pack almost every time we go anywhere it can be used. I upgraded the carabiners to something that isn't stupid heavy. If your questioning between the single and the double get the double. It is so much more room for like 5-10 US dollars.

Light, smart, quick, comfy, durable.

What more is there to say? I'd buy a second one if I needed to.

Eno or Grand Trunk?

I really like this hammock.

The Grand Trunk single is supposed to be a bit longer than the Eno. Does that make it more comfortable? I saw the reviews that Outdoor Gear lab did on hammocks so I decided to try a grand Trunk over the Eno.
The material is the same as the double Eno I have. The GT carabiners are way too heavy and I replaced them with some small lightweight wiregate carabiners. Much better.
The GT comes with two accessory cords for hanging. They use a simple method of knots along the doubled up cord and are easy to set up and are better than nothing but you would definitely scar a tree using them. The Eno hammocks don't come with anything but I think I will just use the Eno Atlas straps with this hammock instead of the supplied cord.

Whose is better? I think it is a toss up.. Better and lighter carabiners with the Eno but no supplied ends for hanging. The GT has Carabiners that you could use as weapons to knock someone unconscious and they come with thin accessory cords for hanging.

I am just happy that I have a hammock that I can sleep in that doesn't try to smother me in my sleep like the doubles do.

Essential Back Country Gear!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I absolutely love this hammock! I've used it on several backpacking excursions as well as countless camping trips and each time it has performed flawlessly. I'd say its comparable to eno products but without the price tag. The materials seem to be super durable while still delivering a soft comfy feel. I loved it so much i bought my girlfriend an Ultralight and my parents a double. Word of advice: if your hammock doesn't come with the hanging kit - get it! It makes set up a breeze and is worth the extra weight.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

very light, the material is very thin and the whole set up is very easy. It packs down into its own pocket so its super easy to transport. Very comfortable to sleep in and with a sleeping bag and pad can replace a tent.

I drove out West for two months of camping out and whatnot. I used this hammock many times and it proved to be very durable and comfortable. The more you use it the more you will love it.

Solid Hammock

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This thing is great. I used it several times in the Sierra mountains, and enjoyed each moment I climbed into it to dive deeper into my book. The width is ample, allowing the sides to envelope you when the wind picks up.

No tears or blemishes have appeared in the material after 10 plus uses. The stuff sack works great for holding a water bottle within arms reach so one doesn't have to dismount.

Yes this comes with the hanging rope and instructions as well as 2 carabiners and the stuff sack.

Great Hammock

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great hammock. It is a little heavier than I would have thought. This is mostly because of the hardware. The material is actually really thin. I think it is awesome that it comes with everything necessary. I am definitely pleased with this hammock.

I have recently switched out the hardware with some nice quick draw carabiners and it is much lighter. Works great!

does this hammock come with all the hardware...

does this hammock come with all the hardware and straps to attach to trees?

It does come with the hardware and straps. They even fit in the little pocket for easy transportation.

What type of rain fly should I pick up to go with this hammock? I'm in love with this one since they offer it in pink!

Also... would these work with it?

yes, depending on the weight, but those straps will work fine.

Personally i would stick with the open rain shelters over the hammock, its much easier to set up that way. You wont have a spider web of ropes and straps going to every tree, one side will be completely open, which is nice if you have a little fire or whatever.

wanted to know if this hammock is suv and...

wanted to know if this hammock is suv and water resisted cause i leave in Jacksonville also can we leave it out side..

Yes it is to a degree...if you leave it out for perpetuity it will show the wear. A day or three in inclement weather won't hurt it much though-IMHO.
