Safety blanket for the beach.

It's official: sand in your buttcrack just isn't any fun. That's why Grand Trunk made the Parasheet. Inside the tiny stuff sack, you'll find a lightweight blanket that's great for the beach. Since Grand Trunk made it out of parachute nylon, sand and water skim right off–no more nasty towels (and sand you know where). If you're not into white sands and beautiful sunsets, the mildew-resistant Parasheet works great for picnics or even as a sunshade.

  • Bottom pockets can be filled with sand so it doesn't blow away
  • Machine washable

The Best Beach/Concert Blanket

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

We've been using our Parasheet for about a year now, and it's best beach and concert blanket we've ever owned. Once the nylon sheet is shoved into the integrated stuff sack it's only slightly larger than a 32oz Nalgene bottle, which means packing it is a breeze. Since it's thin nylon it dries quickly, and sand and dirt brushes away. The blanket is super light, which means even the slightest breeze will pick it up. You can use the sand pockets in all four corners are useful on the beach, but you'll want to keep a keep a couple of cheap tent stakes in the stuff sack for park and concert days.

The large blanket is somewhat small, and is really only big enough for two adults to stretch out. You can might be able to get a third person if you're really good friends.

The only real drawback to the blanket--and the reason I gave it four stars instead of five-- is once grease touches the fabric it will be forever stained. We learned this the hard way when we gave our kids chicken and potato chips on our very first outing with the blanket. Despite using stain remover and washing it immediately when we got home (and several times since) the grease stains are still there.

Like a Swiss Army Knife

Have had one for years. It is always in my pack. Great for a footprint, sunshade, picnic, beach. Takes up no space and has a hundred uses!

High-Tech Beach Blanket

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Compact, Light-weight, multi-purpose uses, stays in place.

It stuffs itself inside itself

What i really mean is you are able to stuff the blanket into its stuff sack thats attach with it.

This isn't use for beach only but it does have sand pockets to keep it staying down. While you can also use it for picnics at the park or maybe outdoor concerts. It drys up really easily and sands don't stick like cotton.

Wish they came in a little bigger size and not as expensive. but definitely worth it.

Had one for years. Works as advertised.

I've had one of these for years now. It is super small (a benefit when you're lugging a ton of crap and two tons of vodka to the beach). Sets up easily and the pockets on the bottom really DO hold enough sand to hold the thing down in some heavy wind.

One shake (whoa there turbo: look out for your neighbors before you shake!) and it's sand free.

Pro tip: put the sheet down "upside down" and then--with your hand inside the pockets--turn the pockets inside out as you scoop them into the sand. Gives you a nice snug tie out.

What if sand gets on the middle of the...

What if sand gets on the middle of the blanket---you still have to "brush" it off, right? So not sure what the allure to this is. Have looked into the CGear Sand Free Mat/Rug where sand sifts down thru the mat if it gets on the mat but not up onto the mat. How does this blanket compare to that?

Best Answer

Yes you still have to brush it off, but it comes off really easily. With those mats that the sand sifts through, I find there is always some left over -- and it gets all over the car, etc.

The Grand Trunk Parasheet is made of parachute nylon and compresses to a really small size and has a self-carrying bag and can be tossed in the washing machine to clean it. The CGear Sand Free Mat/Rug is made of high density polyethylene knitted mono/mono, doesn't compress to a small size, doesn't have a carrying bag and can only be cleaned by being hosed off with detergent. If it's really dirty, you need a high pressure hose and detergent to clean it. The CGear mat/rug is more like a welcome mat that you would use outside your door at home. The Grand Trunk Parasheet is more like a traditional picnic blanket that you use when you want to sit or lie in the grass or sand to read, eat or chill out.

Best Beach Blanket Ever

If going to the beach is something you do even occasionally, you need one of these. The pockets underneath the corners are great, as is the attached stuff sack. Once you get the pockets filled with sand and the blanket stretched out, enjoy, it's nice. Sand doesn't stick and it dries quick. It does have little stake loops on the corners so it can pull double duty at picnics and other outdoor events. Nice bright colors are easy to spot.
