Can't go wrong with it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Gave this one away as a gift, but I've have one of my own that I've used for years. It comes everywhere with me, whether the park, beach, backpacking, or to a friends backyard.
Everyone always ends up fight about who gets to nap in it. It's very durable, hasn't shown any signs of wear from all the abuse I've done to it.

Gives the ENO a run for the money.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have owned the Grand Trunk Double for over a year now, and in that time I have put it through its paces.

Pros: It is larger than its ENO counterpart. It goes on sale much more often than an ENO. It comes with straps unlike the ENO.
With this hammock you can hang it up right out of the box.

Cons: It does not feel quite as durable as an ENO. After a year of use I have had to patch 2 dime sized holes in the hammock. also I have had to re-sew the stitching in the attached stuff sack. Now I will say that this hammock gets used a high amount with many different people getting in and out. Another drawback is that when sitting with your legs outside of the hammock your legs will go to sleep much quicker then if you were sitting in an ENO.

Overall: If you can find this hammock on sale for under ~$60 buy it! if not buy the ENO instead.

The photo shows the Grand Trunk Ultralight on the right, My Grand Trunk Double in the middle, and an ENO doublenest on the left.

Gives the ENO a run for the money.

Such a great addition to life

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Well after spending some time in Costa Rica, I learned that hammocks are the greatest things EVER. So when i saw this on the site, and saw that it was a double, I had no choice but to buy it...and what a great thing it is to have. I just barely got it, and in the middle of winter in Salt Lake there arent a ton of great places to hang it, so i dont have a ton of experience with it yet. However, I went to my buddy's cabin last weekend and hung it between two big wood pillars in his living room and it was pretty epic. I spent a lot of the weekend just chilling in the hammock. I was pretty shocked by how big it was. Me and my girlfriend could fit both of us easily, and there is even enough hammock left to use to cover yourself up if you wanted to. The set up was very simple and the fabric and ropes seem pretty solid. I bought the hawaiian flower print and its pretty rad! I couldnt believe how little and light the pack bag is, considering how big the hammock is. Totally recommended for any campers of travelers.

Lives up to the hype

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These hammocks are all they claim to be. I initially resisted the hype of buying a hammock, but finally purchased a hammock. After camping over 20 nights in the hammock and setting up the hammock multiple times per week to chill I feel ready to review.

The Good: The hammock offers easy set up at camp. Just find some trees. It is a great seat while not sleeping. The hammock has converted me from a ground sleeper to a hammock man. I cannot emphasize how much I love my hammock.

The hammock is much tougher than I initially believed. I hung it on a dead tree and when the tree fell on me it did not rip the hammock.

The Bad: The hammock can get cold! You are surrounded by air. If it is cold you will get cold. I have a zero degree bag, but in the hammock it does not keep you warm when it is in the 30's. I bring in either a wool blanket or a second bag for more insulation.

The rope they include for hanging the hammock is not great quality. I purchased ratchet straps to anchor my hammock to the tree. They allow for much quicker set up and take down, and are easier to adjust for a novice knot tier.

Mosquitoes can eat you alive if you are not totally covered. Either spray yourself down with repellent before bed, or be prepared to get eaten alive.

All of these are just assumed setbacks to the hammock, but all in all the hammock is totally worth the purchase. If mine was stolen or destroyed I would purchase it again, but I would buy the craziest pattern they have instead of something muted like the hammock I got.

Lives up to the hype

A Must Have

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

A backpacking style hammock is a must-have item in my opinion. It will last your whole life unless you do something crazy with it (no guarantees there... ) and even if you don't use it everyday, the days you do you will be some of your happiness and most comfortable days ever. I use mine for traveling in certain situations, camping all the time (sometimes to sleep in, sometimes just to have around camp for relaxing), and even at home in the yard to relax.

The sooner you buy yourself a hammock, the less regret you will have to live with.

Worked great for a week of hiking

Looooove!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This hammock is so rad - I was a little hesitant at first because the material is so light but it's really strong! I accidentally put a wee hole in it because I had a back pocket snap that was bent and had a sharp edge, but doesn't compromise the hammock so far as I can tell; I've been using it regularly for months after the hole and it hasn't had any detrimental effect that I can see. Packs down to about the size of a nalgene bottle, so it's actually feasible to bring it pretty much everywhere, which is awesome. My only complaint is that the 'biners that come with it are super heavy, but that was an easy fix with a couple of lightweight climbing biners! The straps that come with it work fine, but I also have some alternate straps that I made from thicker nylon webbing that I use at home where the hammock gets heavy use in the backyard and I don't want to hurt the trees.

Never sleep on the ground!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love love love this hammock. Not only is it super light weight its very durable and simple to set up. Packs up small. Can't beat the price! I love relaxing by the river in it!

Don't go camping/hiking without it!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

We LOVE our hammock. In fact, buying a second right now for the wife. Quite comfortable with the two of us sharing, but a bit easier to nap in your own. Find if sharing, you're best off at separate ends.

Just got back from a BWCA trip we do every year, had 4 of these strung up next to each other at each site, was sheer bliss. The pups love them too!

Don't go camping/hiking without it!

Love it!

So far have only used it on my porch, but even so, have spent several nights in it and even written a few papers for school while laying in it. The hanging kit that comes included works fairly well also. Overall, great buy and would buy it again in a heartbeat. I am also 6'3" and still fit well

Amazing!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The few times I've been able to use my hammock the set up is simple and it holds very well! The only thing I would advise is grab some new straps I went with ENOs atlas straps which don't harm trees and are simple set up

Very Swell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Couldn't be happier with it, I've been looking at other hammocks but for the price this is the best out there. Great for shorter overnight hikes. Takes up a lot less room than a traditional sleeping bag, weighs a lot less too. I would recommend only using this on warmer dryer nights, cause this thing shouldn't get wet.

what a great buy

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

i bought it for backpacking in fair weather. works great for that, super light weight (much lighter than a tent and sleeping pad) and its super comfy. i got the double because it was on sale and I'm 6'. bigger is better right? YES this is the MOST comfy hammock I've ever been in. easy to set up, plenty of room to sleep how ever you like. its was on the higher price side for me but i couldn't be more happy. worth every penny. as of now it hangs from the ceiling in my apartment and i no longer sleep in my bed. probably getting one more. one for my room, one for camping. buy it. enough said.

Compact, well made

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Really a good hammock, it's made of tough material, and comes right out of the box ready to hang anywhere with two tie offs, and the carabiniers to snap it up quick wherever you go. It also has a sewn on stuff sack, so when it's time to pack it up is always plenty easy to find.

Compact, well made

I have noticed on a few of the reviews...

I have noticed on a few of the reviews that some who are around 6 ft say they have just enough room to sleep diagonally...I am 6'6'', would I be able to fit in this hammock?

Responded on

I have a double and my 6' 11" friend laid in it and said it was ten times more comfortable than his own bed. He loved the length and didn't get squished at either end. I think you will be good to go.

I'm a fan.

I bought this hammock at the end of the summer and I love it. I got the blue hibiscus one and the colors are pretty nice. When you pack it away, its not the smallest, but its not bad. It is the size of my face when its packed.
