Description
Sit on it.
There’s aerodynamic compression fabric in the GORE Bike Wear Xenon Sonic Bib Short, and there’s also a between-the-thighs treat. Yup, it’s the Xenon Sonic chamois. The Carbonium fabric in this chamois provides complete stretch, heat transfer, and moisture transfer, the high-density foam in the lower section of the sciatic area allows for max ventilation, and a top-layer gel insert cushions the goods. This short’s fit compliments your cycle posture so there’s less uncomfortable pulling when you’re in position, and a mesh insert in back dumps excess heat. Put these shorts in the included wash bag for protection in the machine.

I got this bib to replace the Castelli Body Paint and it was an excellent decision. This chamois definitely follows the less is more concept--padding is in just the right spots without a bunch of extra. No rubs - No pains!
Amazing bib!

I'm in the saddle about 12 hours a week. I was using the Pearl Izumi's Elite series and they were extremely uncomfortable after only hour each day (friction and seat bone discomfort). I thought I would need to get a new saddle, but I had a pair of Gore winter tights relatively more comfortable, so I figured I'd snag the higher end Gore bib shorts. WORTH EVERY PENNY!! It feels like sitting on a pillow... amazing; absolutely no rubbing or discomfort even after a 5 hour ride. I will never buy anything but.
I save money everywhere I can, but this purchase has taught me the importance of a good Chamios.
Side note, I am 5'10" 160lbs (bought the medium); the overall fit of the bib is also extremely well done. It contours perfectly to my body while in an aero position.

I'll make it short, these were absolutely perfect for me. I wear a 33/34 regular pants, middle aged, and large fit perfect. The chamois was subtle yet performed excellently on a half century. I like the bibs better than the equivalent Castellis Body Paint, because I have a bit of bulk in the chest and these felt softer and a bit more sturdier. Ok, a bit more pudge in the tummy, but hey I'm 53 and doing it man.
The leg compression was wonderful firm very secure, gripping - but best thing about them is you never felt you were wearing pants at all. Whooo hooo.
Thanks Gore, these are worth every penny and a marvel in cycle apparel design.

I use Specialize equipment but when it comes to cycling apparel I turn to companies that specialize in apparel. I went to a local bike shop and tried on the Gore Xenon Sonic and the Castelli Body Paint. I loved both of them. The bike shop did not have my size so I purchased from Realcyclist the Gore. It's kind of up there in price but after you wear it you will understand why. I have about eight pair of bib tights and I will always turn to the Gore or the Assos. Both are expensive and both are worth it. The chamois on the Xenon is the best I've seen and felt. The bib fits tight material is high quality. You owe it to yourself to at least try a pair. I'm 5'9.5" and 165 lbs and the medium is perfect. Thanks MR. Gore for increasing the number of miles I can ride.

Has anyone worn the Ozone and Xenon (sonic)? Is there a difference in fit. I find the small Ozone just a little to big. Prefer a compresion style fit.

Fit is pretty similar between the Ozon and Xenon Sonic bib shorts.

I'd like an opinion about differences on the functionality of different gore bibs -- ozon, xenon, xenon sonic ? For instance, thicker chamois ? wider chamois ? cooler vs warmer ?

As you move up in pricepoint from the Ozon to the Xenon to the Xenon Sonic, the weight decreases and the chamois includes more densities of foam. The Ozon chamois is the thickest and flattest of the 3, and a little more plush...whereas the Xenon is more streamlined and pre-curved to the shape of the saddle. The Xenon Sonic is similar in design to the Xenon however the wings on the outside of the Xenon Sonic chamois are not padded like the Xenon.
The Xenon Sonic also has mesh panels down the outside of each leg.
Hope this helps

Does anyone know how these bib short (Gore Xenon) fit compared to the Castelli Free Bib Short? I find the Castelli inseam length to be on the short side and find the Free Bib short to run on the small side. Is the Gore fit similar?
Dave Kolosek

I'm not familiar with the inseam on the Castelli bib however the inseam on the Xenon Sonic is 9.5"

I bought the Xenon Sonic Bib Shorts, poured myself into them, went for a 50 miler, then came home and ordered another pair! I splurge on shorts/bibs because, well, nothing comes between my bibs and me, so comfort is a must! Though the 3D chamois in the Xenon Sonic is thinner than many, it FITS the male anatomy--- perfectly, making the long rides that much more enjoyable. These are worth the premium cost and I would highly recommend them!

Great performing bib shorts! The black & white is super nice! Run these bibs with a Gore Bike Wear Motion Full-Zip Cycling Jersey - white & black. This kit kicks ass! You won't be disappointed. + these Sonic Bibs come with a laundry sack (nice feature).
