Unless you live at the Equator, the discomfort of riding in chilly weather is a necessary inevitability. Cool-weather riding gear can be bunch and bind, and layering can make you feel like you’re wearing a straightjacket. Gore Bike Wear feels your pain. Its answer may be what you’ve been looking for—the Oxygen 2.0 Gore-Tex AS Jacket. What makes the Oxygen 2.0 so great is that it isn’t a jersey or a jacket—it’s both.
To call the Oxygen 2.0 a light jacket doesn’t really do it justice. The addition of Active Shell Gore-Tex makes the Oxygen 2.0 impervious to weather. That’s a tall order for any jacket—let alone a “light” one. The fleece lining insulates to keep your body heat in, but the jacket is breathable, so it lets water vapor escape to keep you dry. The fleece lining is also extremely soft to the touch, so the Oxygen 2.0 can be worn comfortably without a jersey or base layer. It has a looser fit than most jerseys, as well, which makes it comfortable but not flappy and annoying like a regular jacket. This allows a jersey, if desired. Gore Bike Wear also thought to weld the seams ultrasonically, which eliminates chafe by eliminating the raised area of the thread in a normal seam.
