We hear the terms ‘waterproof’ and ‘windproof’ a lot with cycling apparel, and we just don’t always trust them. Tons of products are wind- or water-resistant, but very few can honestly claim to be wind- or waterproof. When the folks at Gore Bike Wear say it, however, you can believe it to be Gospel. After all, these are the good folks that brought us Gore Tex: the first and last words in waterproof breathable. Of course, they also brought us Windstopper—the windproof breathable fabric that’s used to make Gore Bike Wear Countdown SO Light jacket.

Windstopper is absolutely windproof. It’s also water-resistant and breathable. When worn as an outer softshell layer, Windstopper repels wind, snow, and light rain, while remaining breathable. The material also remains soft against the skin.

The Countdown’s anatomic, contoured cut keeps it from bunching, binding, or chafing. The elongated back hem keeps you covered when crouched in the pedal position and elastic binding keep the jacket in place, and the pre-curved elbows fall comfortably. The overall fit is relaxed to allow layering underneath, if necessary. If not, flatlock stitching prevents chafing and irritation of the skin.

The Countdown also comes with ample pocket space—two large front pockets, one Napoleon pocket, and a zippered rear security pocket. Reflective trim makes you more visible in traffic.
