Description

Two-layer short that gives you cool and comfortable options for your summer rides.

The Gore Countdown II Shorts will quickly prove to be an essential part of your mountain biking wardrobe. You’ll feel like all the right places have been thought through by people who spend a lot of time on their bikes, testing their creations.

Mountain bike shorts need to walk that line between versatility and sportiness. With the moisture-wicking nylon outer short, you'll feel comfortable in the loose-fitting material whether you're on the bike or in the coffee shop. Two front and two side pockets with a hook and loop closure as well as a zipper pocket in the back give you tons storage if you're not the type to wear a pack. For those of us who hate to have our stomach restricted, the waistband is elastic in the rear, and won't dig in. Reflective piping and logos at the front and the back will help you stay visible on the way home from the trailhead. With a 12 inch (30cm) inseam, the shorts will give you the sort of coverage that mountain biking requires, but will still give you plenty of freedom of movement.

The detachable inner shorts come with the Gore Sport elastic seat insert. It’ll give you enough protection without making you feel like you're wearing a diaper. The seams are shifted to make sure that nothing is in danger of rubbing in high movement areas. The gripper elastic at the hems holds the inner short in place. The Gore Countdown II Shorts come in Black, White/Black, EB/Black and EH/Black. They are available in sizes Small through XX-Large.

  • Elastic waist and beltloops secure the short as you get tossed around on the mountain
  • Inner pant features gripper elastic to prevent uncomfortable migration
  • Plenty of pockets hold your most used tools or snacks during a ride
  • Reflective front details keep you visible in late evening traffic

Great All Day Shorts

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shorts have been great for all day rides on the trails. They sit at a good height above the knee, and don't get caught on any stray branches. I have a 30" waist, and the small fits me well. The liner is better than my road bike shorts!

Good Shorts, but SMALL

Overall, I am pleased with these shorts; but they do have some shortcomings.

1) The pants fit very tight. I ordered a size large, because that's what I wear in Pearlzumi, Descent, etc.. shorts. These shorts are very snug though (and it's not just because i'm fat), and an extra large would fit much better. I recommend you order 1 size larger than what you normally wear.

2) Front pockets are very shallow; and you can tell something might fall out while riding. I don't trust anything more valuable than chapstick in these pockets. The side cargo pockets are fine though; with velcro closures.

I Also Bought a 2nd Pair

The Countdown Short and its liner, IMHO, are among the best. The chamois in the liner is thick and comfortable. Gore placed reflector strips on the legs so that you can be seen at night. A feature that Gore does not talk about is the satin strip found on the top edge of the legs. It prevents overlapping stitches from scratching the top of the thigh.

Front pockets too small

I don't understand why the front pockets are so small. My whole hand does not fit the front pockets. At first I thought I had order women's shorts but I was wrong. The good thing is that it has more deeper pockets side and a very small one in the back. Other than that they are good shorts.

Responded on

Yes the front pockets are not deep, but the quality is outstanding!

Good enough, that I'm buying a 2nd pair

Really like these shorts. Comfortable, the right length so they don't catch and on the tighter rather than baggier side. Like them enough that I'm buying a 2nd pair.

Worth the $$$!

What's not to love? These shorts are a roomy fit and include a high quality chamois. There's belt loops for those so inclined and there is an elastic band so you don't have to do the belt thing. Read the sizing chart before you order. If you're a 34 waist, that's a large in Gore Bike Wear. There are several choices of MTB shorts in this price range. These shorts are high quality and should last a few seasons. Some of the others in this range won't last the summer. Bummer! While I think these are great, Gore also makes a short called Freeride which I highly recommend. They cost a bit more but they're my #1 favorite. These are a close second.
