When shorts won't cut it.
As we all know, there are certain conditions, both in terms of trail and weather, where shorts simply won't cut it. And for the all-mountain trail rider, these conditions appear both frequently and suddenly. To address this, Gore Bike Wear developed an entire line of apparel directed towards the needs of the all-mountain rider, called Countdown. And at its height are the Countdown 3.0 Plus 3/4 Length Women's Pants.
While many pants that bear the self-appointed 'all-mountain' classification are constructed from materials like cordura or other stuffy and stiff fabrics like it, Gore used entirely different approach for the Countdown 3.0 Plus. Gore opted for a 100% polyester composition, ensuring the utmost in breathability, moisture management, and freedom of movement. This isn't to say that the pants are flimsy, far from it. Instead, you'll find thicknesses of polyester that are durable, abrasion-resistant, and highly breathable. This plays directly to what Gore calls its Outfit Systems. Essentially, like the Countdown lineage, this system ensures the right tool for the job. It's comprised of three layers, each with its own purpose. Layer one provides moisture management, layer two (where these pants fall under) provides thermo-regulation, and layer three provides protection from the elements. So, it's easy to see that these pants perform their appointed function dutifully.
However, Gore wasn't finished with this ideology after it selected the fabric. Instead, a special focus was placed on both fit and construction. Starting with the latter, these pants feature shifted seams that move the seams away from the locomotion of the legs. Accordingly, your legs aren't confronted with the seams during the pedaling motion, and thus, chafing as a result of movement is eliminated. Furthermore, the cut of the pants lends itself to further reducing abrasion by essentially being pre-shaped to the cycling position. In simpler terms, the pants are cut on a contour in order to adapt to your position in the saddle. So, while you move, the pants move with you, not against you. Perpetuating this concept even further, Gore also incorporated stretch inserts and pre-shaped knees in order to create an even higher level of flexibility and comfort.
Securing this fit is a partially elastic waistband and a concealed front zipper. There are also belt loops sewn into the waist, should you choose to don a belt on your ride. Additionally, the interior of the pants feature a simple-to-use tape and snap system to secure the included Inner Lady Tights+ liner pants. These are highly malleable due to their composition blend of both elastane and nylon. Additionally, this structure makes them incredibly soft and highly effective at managing moisture, which is further propagated through the installation of mesh ventilation panels. So, given the past explanation of Gore's Outfit Systems, the Countdown 3.0 Plus features both layers one and two. You'll also find that these inner shorts include an Elastic Interface Technology (EIT) Contest Lady chamois. This insert provides anatomic support to the regions that need it most, not the ones that don't. As a result, the chamois conforms to your body, following your every movement in and out of the saddle. This means that chafing and pinching are both eliminated, accordingly providing an exceptional level of comfort.
For storage of your ride essentials, the Countdown 3.0 Plus includes two front hand pockets and a concealed rear zippered security pocket. Gore has also included reflective accents throughout the pants in order to increase your visibility to motorists or fellow trail-users in low-light conditions.
The Gore Bike Wear Countdown 3.0 Plus 3/4 Length Women's Pants are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black/graphite grey and Graphite Grey/black.

Great bike pants
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
I don't like tight fitting bike pants so this pair works perfect. It's not too loose and just contours your legs, never touches the bike and gets in your way when you pedal. I normally wear small and it fits me great. Highly recommend this pair.
