That's why the developers at GoPro produce their fully capable base model Hero. You receive many of the same action-capturing features and benefits as its more expensive models, but without shelling out big bucks in the process. We suggest you use the money you'll save to travel to even more epic GoPro-worthy locations in the near future.

Sticking to a proven platform, the guts of Hero don't deviate too much from its flashier Hero siblings. This is a good thing, as you're able to record gorgeous 1080p30 and 720p60 video, along with capturing 5MP single, time lapse, and burst photos up to 5 fps. The durable construction is also waterproof up to 131' (40m), meaning that you'll be able to gather footage just about anywhere, and the QuikCapture feature lets you power on and automatically record with the simple push of a button. Other impressive features include SuperView, which gives you the distinct wide-angle field of view nearly synonymous with the GoPro name, as well as an Auto Low Light mode that intelligently adjusts frame rates for optimal low-light recording.

The GoPro Hero comes in one color and has Micro-SD functionality. Its software is compatible with Mac OSX as early as 10.5, and Microsoft Windows as early as Vista 7. Included in the package is the following: Hero Camera, 131ft/40m waterproof housing, interchangeable Skeleton (opens for better cable access and cooling) Backdoor for the housing, a rechargeable Li-ion battery, 1 quick-release buckle, 1 curved and 1 flat adhesive mount, and a USB charging cable. It does not include a memory card (MicroSD Class 10 or higher is required, supportable up to 32GB).
