Great every day cam

This camera is bomb proof. Water, sand, snow, and dummy proof. Cant miss a shoot with the mega wide lens. Great picture quality, 1080p makes you look pro. Tested in 18 degrees mountain conditions. Took it off the high dive at the local pool. Comes with a none water proof back door, allows camera to pick up more sound. Making this camera great for every day life recorder.

This camera works for anything. the picture is amazingly clear, it will easily atach to almost anything, so you can get some really interesting shots. i personally like the pole cam angle, because with the wide angle lense it totally puts you in the action, instead of just a close up of you. the beeping noises are super helpful when you are turning it on and pressing record, because you dont have to take your helmet off to see if its recording. It works in most light conditions, from extremely bright to kinda dark. i bought this after i realised that the oregan scientific mounts dont sell replacements, and so i would have had to buy a new camera because one little piece of plastic didnt work. im super stoked about this camera, you should deffinatly buy it!

      Pretty Dope

I gave this Helmet Camera 4 stars because it is the best helmet camera on the market right now as far as I am concerned. It is not, however, the best potential camera that GoPro could make.

It has better quality footage than any other helmet camera, but its not that durable (I have broken 3), the way they let you mount it all take way too long to set up, they need to make the case close more securely. They should make the sensor larger, they should make the body a perfect square instead of a rectangle (that way you can set it up on the side or on top of your helmet easier). They should put bluetooth in it so that you can stream video to your phone (rather than use a gimmicky LCD screen attached to the back). They should give it 60fps 1080p and 960p video (so that we dont' have to use 720p just to get decent footage).

        Awesome Quality

GoPro's got it down with these. They are super easy to use, adjust and film with. The quality is amazing and this bad boy is a lot of fun to use. I had mine down in lake Powell for a week and the battery life was great, we filmed almost every day while we were wake boarding and had plenty of battery life. It's extremely durable as well, which is a bonus since I've just started using it for dirt biking as well. It's one of the best recording devices to carry in my opinion.

          Best Camera Ever

Last March I took this camera out for a big powder day of skiing. In my excitement I just slapped one of the sticky pads to my helmet on the way up to the mountain... bad move. When I got to the mountain they had gotten about 16" of snow and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I rushed over to one of my favorite runs, slapped on my skis, and headed down. I got up to speed and took about four turns before I crossed up my tips, double ejected, and landed right on the top of my head. When I stopped rolling I felt the top of my helmet and nothing was there... my heart sank. After searching for about 30 minutes I gave up but continued to ride the lift the rest of the day to see if I could spot it. On one ride up one of my friends said they saw something... so we went over and took a look. It was a Go Pro!!! Unfortunately, it wasn't mine so I turned into the lifty hoping that someone would do the same with mine if they found it. No one ever did. This past weekend my girlfriend suggested we go look for it since I knew where approximately where I fell. Although I didn't think there was anyway we would find it, I was bored and agreed. Right when we were about to give up looking, I looked over and there it was!!! I couldn't believe it! Although we had found it I didn't think there was anyway that it would work once plugged in... I was wrong!! After being buried in the snow for four months, as soon as the battery was charged it fired right up! This camera and the housing are exactly as advertised... bomb proof!!

            Gotta have it

These things are great. The LCD attachment makes them so versatile, not to mention all the different mounting options. The Contour didn't have the LCD option last time I checked, so you never know if you are getting the shot you want until you download the footage, which is a bummer if you miss something sick! GoPro makes it easy to get the shot every time!

is there a screen on the back? if not is it hard to get the shot in the frame? or is it just point and shoot

Sup Zach, There is not a screen on the back. Its a basic point and shoot camera. But the Mounts for it are so stable that it makes shooting quick and easy. Whether its the Helmet mount. The head mount. Or the Chest mount. The Camera catches everything that you see in your Vision. Even Peripherals. I Still have to figure out sound on it. Because with the casing it is quite quiet. But i have not really had too much time to mess with it. Here is a link of a basic run with the head mount.

Hi! Can anybody tell us what's the difference between this camera and the GoPro HD HERO Naked? Just more attach devices for the extra $40 or there's something else? Any of these cameras come with the chest strap or you'll always have to buy it separately?
              Thank you very much!

Durability? Has anyone had any trouble...

Has anyone had any trouble with the camera breaking after taking a hard fall? I'm especially worried about mountain biking and kayaking (hitting a rock while upside down), and wondered how tough this thing is?

              Best Answer

It's super tough. I've taken some really hard falls on my downhill bike and the thing keeps going. Plus, the lens and latch on the outer case are replaceable, so even if something does break, you only need to replace that one part.

Is the camera freeze proof to any extent?...

Is the camera freeze proof to any extent? I know it's designed for filming ski shots but it doesnt mention anywhere how it goes in cold conditions, a lot of othe models say works to -10C. Had a lot of problems with cameras just shutting down once they hit the cold air.

How does this compare to the GoPro HD Hero Naked? What's the difference?

I'm going to (at least partially) answer my own Q. After comparing and, it looks like the Helmet Hero and the Hero Naked are identical except for what they come packaged with. Both contain the following:
1 HD HERO Camera (5 megapixel)
              1 Rechargeable 1100 mAh Lithium-Ion Battery
              1 Waterproof Quick-Release Housing (180’/60 m)
              1 USB Cable
              1 Component Video (HDTV) Cable
1 Composite Video + Audio Out Cable
              Warranty: One Year

The Naked comes with 1 Curved, 3M™ Adhesive Mount while the Helmet comes with 2 Curved, 3M™ Adhesive Mounts

And the Helmet contains the following (but the Naked doesn't contain any of these items):
              1 Headlamp-Style Head Strap
              1 Vented Helmet Strap
              2 Flat, 3M Adhesive Mounts
1 Three-Way Pivoting Side Arm Assembly

Maybe there are other differences, but I didn't see them on the site.
