Touring can be a tricky activity to plan for, but there’s no doubt that you need a waterproof breathable shell. That’s where the GoLite Men’s Spectre Jacket comes in. GORE-Tex PacLite fabric keeps you dry, and GORE-Tex Performance fabric in the shoulders and arms delivers maximum durability and breathability in critical areas. GoLite gave this three-layer GORE-Tex garment an internal media pocket and two way armpit zips—though, given this jacket’s high breathability you may not even need them.

Bottom Line: A Spectre of waterproofing.

Great Lightweight Shell

By:
November 5, 2009

After ordering a dozen coats in a variety of styles and materials, this was by far my favorite.

I've had the Spectre for a few months now and used it everywhere from a few dozen city downpours at temps between 40-80, a 20 minute shower test, to rainy hikes in WV. I have to say, I love it.

I have GoLite's Jam2 and am pleased to report it lives up to my expectation in every way - strong, lightweight, affordable, looks great. The fit is clean and fitted without being snug so I can fit a few layers underneath (I'm 5'9" and 155lb and wear very fitted clothing - purchased the small). The jacket also breathes wonderfully.

To top it all, you can't beat the weight. Originally thought about the Virga but am glad I opted for the pockets. The media pocket and wiring ability is a nice touch. Just enough stuff to make it great without overwhelming you with weight and options. I'm thrilled.

Awesome lightweight jacket

By:

I've had the GoLite Spectre for about two months now and have used it on a hike up Bear Peak in Boulder Colorado in some cool early morning spring humidity, a jaunt up some mountain trails in a light drizzle, and a full-on downpour riding my bike home from the office...and it's been just what the doctor ordered in all conditions. It's extremely lightweight and packable due to the predominantly Gore-Tex Paclite construction and breathes well enough to keep your temperature regulated during aerobic activity. Good ventilation with the pit zips too and as waterproof as you could ask for. A great piece to take with you just in case the weather turns sour...you sure won't notice it in your pack. I'm 5'11", 155 lbs. and picked up a medium (that fits perfectly) off SAC for about 90 bucks. Can't beat it!

Golite.com has the Spectre listed at 13.8 oz (391g). I own a golite Virga; much lighter and very scaled down. I luv it and wouldnt trade it for anything. However, I have been looking at the Spectre for various reasons. You ought to try and catch this item on SteepandCheap.com cuz I have seen it for well over 50% off.

Good Rain shell; Pockets useless with a hipbelt

By:
October 7, 2009

Great jacket, excellent hood, stood up to 4+ hours of heavy rain with only a little leakage around the wrists. My only complaint is that the pockets are completely useless with a hip belt. I got a great deal on from SAC, so I'm happy with it. But I don't know why anyone would make a shell that wasn't hip belt friendly.

excellent rain wear

This jacket is lightweight and stores very easily in my daypack. I have used it while running, biking, dog walking and hiking and so far am stoked with its performance and design. The air vents are large and provide ample ventilation under all the above conditions. I am 6 ft. and 173 lbs. I have the large and it fits great with enough room for a shell underneath if necessary or even a very lightly loaded daypack in unexpected downpours. When the rain falls I excitedly rush outdoors to enjoy the abandoned trails from inside this beauty.
