The GoLite Shangri-La 2 Shelter provides an out-of-the-rain haven for two campers, and at a weight of only 25oz, you won't even notice when it's in your backpack. GoLite's floorless design pitch with the trekking poles you already have on the trip, so you don't need to carry anything but a simple piece of SilLite nylon. Don't confuse the Shangri-La 2 Shelter with some basic tarp. This system covers all the way to the ground and includes a door for easy access plus top venting to reduce condensation. Combine this shelter with a GoLite Nest or Floor for added protection.

Bottom Line: Get serious about traveling light. Hit the trail with the 29oz GoLite Shangri-La 2 Shelter.

This shelter is surprisingly wind resistant, very roomy for two, well ventilated, and super light. Just weighed mine last night and it came in at 1 lbs. 8.8 oz.

Light and multi-seasonal

Although it lacks snow flaps, when paired with the floor this is a great spring touring shelter. Pretty easy to set up with trekking poles (stake out the floor first and then set it up from inside), and very light. With enough tension its pretty storm-worthy. I have sat through a heavy sierra spring storm and some decent wind (not above timberline, mind you) and it stood up pretty well. However, I was very careful in how and where I pitched it. I've used it backpacking and had good results, but I definitely recommend you invest in some sort of cup for the tips of the trekking poles. The canopy fabric is not used to carbide tips under high tension. My only complaint is that it is not all that romantic with the poles in between the campers and there is no vestibule for shoes and wet gear. But then again, the whole thing is a vestibule without the floor...

Great Buy

Great design! Light weight and very versatile. If you are not used to using a tarp it takes some practice to be able to set it up quickly. The trekking poles don't stay in the sewn in cups very well. All in all, I would recommend this for anyone looking for a quality tarp.

Does it have a footprint or bathtub floor?

I use the go lite sing regularly. I definitely took me a couple of trips to get the hang of pitching it. I only use a pole at the front and guy out the back with cord to a tree. You can almost always find 1 tree in the right place. I use the rear guy line as a makeshift laundry line. I also use a piece of non-skid shelf liner or jar-opener or similar between the pole and the tent at the top. Keeps pole in place and protects tarp. I am thinking of getting the screen nest though as I have become a bit too familiar with both forest floor creatures(mainly mice/chipmunks) who really don't mind bunking in with you during the night.
