Great with Shangri-La Fly

This nest is a necessity when using the Shangri-La 1 fly. The ticks and mosquitoes are thick where I live and this was a great companion on my last solo backpacking trip. It is very lightweight and compact. 1 problem I have with it: the mid section doesn't stay very taught and sags a little bit, making the interior seem smaller than it is. There are also no mid section loops to use if you want to stake the sides out. Other than that I really like the Shangri-La combo. If I didn't already have a 2-person tent, I would have gone with the Shangri-La 2 which I like a lot more. But for my compact and ultra-lightweight needs, this is the best.

Very well made, heavy duty, but trying to use in an ultralight manner with a 6 oz tarp. Normally the net tent weighs less than the tarp, but here it is the opposite. I added velcro tabs so it has a lot more room inside by sticking the tabs to the tarp wall. Price was excellent for what I got.

First Off, GoLite is claiming that the nest weighs under a pound at 15.9 oz or 450 grams, but that doesn't include the weight of stakes which do not come with the nest. Stakes do come with the shelter however and if you plan on using it with the shelter you don't need the stakes. The total combined weight of the nest and shelter is 2 lbs 3 oz, which is crazy lite.
I've only used this in conjunction with the Shangri-La shelter and it does an adequate job; it will keep the bugs away and your sleeping bag dry, but the fit is off. Unlike the shelter the nest is really droopy, especially on the sides. I wish they had used an extra gram and added a few loops or something so I could make the fit more tight to the shelter.
Overall I'm pleased with the shelter, I really like the versatility, weight, and the protection it offers, but I'm disappointed about the way it attaches to the shelter.
