    GoalZero converts light into sound!

Durable and sounds good for the price. I leave it on the dash driving to and from outings to get a solar charge, use it as a car speaker to listen to tunes while it charges on the dash, and it charges while hiking and skiing if you strap it to your pack with the panel side up. Sweet speaker.

    So good I bought two!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This thing is awesome--like really really awesome! I have a crappy van I use to tool around the west on climbing trips, and the stereo sucks. So I just plop this baby on the dash board, and it never dies while blasting tunes all day long. Like Lexi say's below it also doubles as a sweet stash spot for your goodies if you take it into the backcountry.

Music is a huge moral booster on long hikes, and this baby really brings the tunes to life right when you're bonking.

    Who needs a car stereo?

We took this on a 2 week trip in central america for our pool & beach days, which it obviously came in super handy for. However, our rental car didn't have a functional stereo so we ended up just using this little guy to support our 20 hours of total driving over the 2 week period = life saver! The solar panel unit seems pretty decent, I never let it fully solar charge just because we were using it so much and wanted something ready to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good for such a compact little speaker, it's definitely no base booming system, but it gets the job done and allows you access to your tunes. The Bluetooth worked great too.

First Portable Speaker I Haven't Broken

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So I like having music when I travel and climb. However, I've also learned that the durability of many portable speakers is way lower than I'd like; I've probably gone through five in the last two years. After one of the nicer ones broke down I was pretty wary about picking this us, but I haven't been disappointed yet.

The Pros - charges really fast off a USB, decent sound quality, good bluetooth connectivity, can be charged via solar panels, very protective casing to leave a phone or iPod inside.

The cons - Solar charging takes a very long time. Bluetooth connectivity lags slightly; not an issue with music but I've used it as an external speaker for my laptop, and it needs to stay manually plugged in to keep in sync. Not the loudest speaker.

However, it is fulfilling my #1 criteria of not dying, and it's super lightweight and takes up almost no space in my pack. Not expecting to need to buy another external little speaker for awhile with this one around.

    * You can't see the speaker because it's in my FANNY PACK!

I've had this speaker going on 2 years now.

The version I have is V1 - so there is no solar panel charger, so I cannot comment on the performance of that particular feature, but otherwise the unit is identical.

    * Sound Quality is surprisingly good. I actually used this instead of a sound system for my birthday dance party. Granted, it certainly could have been louder, but the fact that it could hold it's own in the first place as a dance party starter is pretty impressive.

I've found it's always sufficient for just jamming around my home or in the outdoors, or BBQs.

    * This lil guy is water resistant, so I always pack it in my fanny pack while paddleboarding, such a neat thing to do. Really appreciate that it can handle light precip and a smattering of water.

    * The architecture of this guy is nice. You can safely stash your phone, keys, or music device inside and zip it on up. Now, it wouldn't protect your gear if it went underwater, but if you encountered light rain or a splash you'd be totally fine.

I love how compact and small it is, I've traveled with it often. Taken it on yurt trips, river trips, camping trips and general travel.

All in all a great product in a really great package.

I would absolutely get this for a friend and I'm planning to give a couple to couples at weddings this summer.
