Description

This is gonna feel a little weird at first ...

The Gnu Weird Men's Snowboard Binding will change your perception of how a binding should be. It has a canted baseplate and footbed that may feel strange at first, but it actually allows for a more natural stance that increases control and lessens fatigue. It also has a Fastec quick-entry system that will make you never want to deal with straps and ratchets again.

  • Fastec entry system features a reclining highback for quick entry and exit so you don't have to fumble with ratchet buckles
  • Symmetric highback is cored for light weight and a consistent flex
  • FT3 baseplate is canted to mimic natural leg position to reduce fatigue
  • EVA footbed with Shock Pads dampens vibrations and helps absorb harsh impacts
  • Asymmetric ankle strap increases medial flex while adding lateral support
  • Thin Fit toe strap is low-profile for a snug and secure fit
  • Chair Lift Relief button allows you relax the ankle strap pressure to keep your feet comfy on the lift

Moved to these from Drake Fifty's. The Gnus are definitely faster to get in and out of, though it takes some getting used to. Not as fast as skis, but definitely faster than regular bindings. Now I have to wait for my buddies instead of the other way around.

The binding, itself, is more secure than the Drake, whose toe straps had a tendency to shift around. I liked the quick-release on the Gnus: not having to fiddle with tension adjustments every time was a real time saver. Furthermore, after one season, the ratchets on the Drakes were getting sticky. Won't need to deal with that anymore.

Ankle strap on Gnus were more comfortable than Drake's -- no hotspots. Binding was secure: there was no noticable heel lift.

Things I do not like about Gnus:
- highbacks/anklestraps do not fold down; takes up more space.
- the binding release lever takes considerable effort to open, and often snags mittens when closing.
- highback gets in the way of skating when down.
- release lever gets in the way of highback lowering if not opened all the way -- not really a big deal.
- tricky to get into on sloped terrain -- need room to open binding, and stability to step in.
- ankle strap quick-release can take some effort to open/close, depending on tension setting.
- toe strap clamps can come undone by contact with snow.
- requires above average flexibility to be able to bend down to open/close binding. Not for those with beer bellies.

FYI, I am a beginner/intermediate boarder, riding groomers, exclusively. I'm not that demanding about equipment, performance-wise. For what it's worth, the Gnus are working for me better than the Drakes.
