Well-ventilated, streamlined protection.

Designed for the rigors of trail riding, the Giro XAR Helmet merges lightweight protection with enhanced venting and extended coverage from the elements. The helmet's In-Mold construction consists of an EPS liner that's fused to a polycarbonate shell made of DuPont Nylon. Essentially, this construction technique not only provides protection from nasty spills on the trail, but it also reduces weight, while allowing for the inclusion of better ventilation. In fact, the XAR features 17 Wind Tunnel vents strategically placed to move heat and moisture off your head for a cool, well-ventilated feel.

Its P.O.V. visor deflects harsh sun, passing showers, and trailside brush when you're riding in a wide variety of conditions. X-Static lining material cuts down on funky odor build-up, especially when you're riding on a hot summer day. Moreover, you'll find a Roc Loc 5 fit system for a micro-adjustable fit with the twist of a dial, with fore and aft height adjustments for a more fully customized fit.

  • In-Mold construction

Cooler head prevail

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A well ventilated helmet is essential for desert riding and out here in Utah we have plenty of that. I have found this helmet to be one of the better ventilated while maintaining a secure and snug fit. The Roc Loc grips my occipatal protuberences and feels bomb proof. All internal pads are replaceable, so when you sweat it out, you can get new ones. Remember, most manufacturers recommend you replace your helmet every 4 years or sooner. Impacts should be replaced immediately.

Great Fit and Ventilation

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I recently purchased another Giro Xar after using my previous Xar for about four years.

I think one of the best features of the Xar is its ventilation. It has kept me very comfortable, even on hot Southern California summer days.

The fit is also dialed. I have a pretty large head and the Large sizes fits very well with no pressure points. I tried on a lot of different helmets before purchasing my latest Xar and I have to say that it fits true to size.

The only minor issue I have is that the plastic on the roc-loc dial separates (same issue described by the previous reviewer).

However, this has not prevented me from using the helmet and has not interfered with it's functionality.

Overall, a great helmet for Trail and All-Mountain riding.

It's ok.

Fits great, comfortable too. HOWEVER, the padding will peel and the roc loc plastic will break. Giro calls this normal wear and tear. I've owned my Xar for less than a year and now I have the option to spend $40 on replacement parts. That said, I guess I can't get a helmet this good for $40.
