A staple.
A lightweight vest serves as a critical layer when the weather can't seem to make up its mind. That's exactly why Giro developed its version of the Wind Vest as a staple in the new apparel collection.
This lightweight vest was made using a durable ripstop nylon, which effectively blocks those chilling winds from reaching your core. A vented panel was strategically placed along the back, serving to evacuate warm air and moisture buildup from within. The result is a superlight outer layer that keeps your torso shielded from icy air.
And when you've successfully conquered that dicey descent, simply unzip and stash it in a jersey pocket—the lightweight design packs down nicely. Finishing off the vest are reflective accents throughout, as well light elastic treatments at the arm holes and hem.
The Giro Wind Vest - Women's is available in sizes X-Small to X-Large and in the colors Blue Midnight, Castor Grey, and Grey Ridge.

Weird Gender Discrepancy: Got the Men's
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:True to size
- Size Bought: (men's) Medium
I bought the men's version of this vest because the women's one has some funky flap behind the zipper and also a pretty odd slit in the shoulders (breathability?).
I love love this vest: it's the perfect shove-in-your-pocket-what-is-the-weather-doing layer. It's light enough that I barely notice it, packs down super super tiny. It's also substantial enough to provide an important wind barrier for those cool mornings or quick(ish) descents.
I got this vest before riding the Tour Divide this past summer, and it never failed to keep me a perfect temperature. It was safe bungied to the top of my seatpack when I wasn't wearing it. It also held up remarkably well over more than a couple occasions of going rubber-side-up.
I would recommend this as the go-to wind layer for changing or unpredictable weather. It's not really a water-resistance layer, but will suffice in a pinch to keep warmer.
I bought a size small originally in the men's, then sized up to a Medium to allow more room for snacks while bikepacking. If I bought again, would go with a men's small, women's medium or large
Hi Kelsey--there are not pockets on the vest. That's another reason I sort of sized up, allowing more room for things in my jersey pockets (I was riding with a while between food stops, so needed to carry a lot sometimes).

Are there pockets on this vest, Hannah? Doesn't say anything in the description and I can't tell from the picture!
