    Affordable performance.

The Solara is built around the same performance fit as Giro’s top-shelf competition shoes to give you the same pedaling efficiency as the pros. It’s also made with premium, high-performance materials. Giro knows where to make slight compromises, however, so that it can make a high-performance road shoe available at an extremely reasonable price.

The first area where Giro was able to lower cost is the upper material. Instead of using one of the costly microfibers that its much more expensive shoes use, Giro opted for tough, breathable microfiber. This is a more basic microfiber than Evofiber or Teijin, and it gains a few grams because of that. Also, instead of an expensive EC90 carbon fiber outsole, the Solara uses Dupont Zytel nylon, which creates an efficient pedaling platform, but isn’t quite as stiff. Many riders feel, however, that the slight loss in efficiency at the pedal is worth the gain in comfort that Zytel provides.

Other features of the Solara include a ratcheting third buckle for precise fit control. You’ll notice this same ratcheting buckle on many of the pros’ shoes. Giro also treated the Solara with Aegis antimicrobial to fight odors.

    Weird fit for me

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large

I felt a seam on my right little toes while the shoe was also too big for me. I wear a 9.5 US and ordered 41.5. My feet are narrow with long toes. The shoes looked cool so this was a bummer. I ordered shimanos instead and they worked out great.

    My new favorite...spin shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Truth be told, I'm no cyclist...but I play one in spin class. I tried Shimanos, which I liked, but I'm all about color and the grey/purple mix of these babies spoke to me. I wear a 9-9.5 and I tried the 42 and 42.5; the 42 fit, but I opted for the 42.5 because I like wiggle room in my run and spin shoes. I installed the Wellgo SPD adaptor (shoes are 3-holers, wouldn't work for Keiser bikes) and I was in business. I love the fit, which is narrower than the Shimanos (WS41? 42?), with a supportive arch and nice cush for all the time off the saddle. I'm very happy with these:)

    Great shoes.

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Gave these as a gift and have information to report:

"I love these shoes. Very comfortable. I wear a size 5 in regular shoes and got size 37 in these. I have narrow feet and these are very snug. Very happy with them. Color is very accurate."

    Light and comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

A year ago I got the Giro Reva shoes for my Shimano Click'R PD-T400 Bike Pedals. I loved the fit and decided to get the Solara shoes for my Shimano 105 PD-5700 SPD SL Pedals. They are light and comfortable to wear for long rides. In EU sizes I'm usually 37, but for Giro Shoes I am 38.

    Smooth and speedy!

LOVE these shoes! I've been cycling for 10 years, but this is the first time I've really invested in a pair of shoes. I never believed it could make that much of a difference, but woah does it! I generally wear a size 8.5 shoe, the 41.0 fits like a glove. I have such a better connection to the bike in these than with my ancient, cheap shimano's. I ordered the pricier Espada's, but found that they felt nearly identical in fit and weight to the Solara, and after riding the Solara's once, I fell in love and sent the expensive ones back. On steepandcheap the Solara is an absolute steal! I was also worried the black would be hot for summer biking, but they managed to stay cool in multiple 90 deg/2-3hr rides thus far.

      Awesome bike shoes!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These shoes are great! I have low volume (narrow?) feet that seem to swim in other shoes. These fit perfectly, are very comfortable, and are also really cute.

I tried on some shimano shoes at another store to figure out what size I should get. Then I looked at the size chart for these and ignored it and instead ordered the same size as the shimano - 37. The shoes were then 2 half sizes too small. If I had just used the size chart they would have fit perfectly and would not have required me to drive over to the factory to exchange them.

The size chart is true to size. I wear a 6.5 street shoe size in most shoes and I wound up in a size 38.

I already have spin shoes with clips. Can I transfer the clips to these shoes or do I also need an adapter?

Can these shoes and their clip system be...

Can these shoes and their clip system be used on spin class bikes?

Best Answer the short answer. The longer answer is...most spin bikes are setup for "spd" cleats. The straight spd is a 2 hole cleat design...normally used on Mountain Bikes or Cross country bikes. The smaller spd cleat usually recesses into the sole of the shoe making them easier to walk on. The recessed cleat is also more friendly to the spin studios flooring. You can buy an adapter which will allow you to put spd cleats on these shoes. So you will need the shoes, a spd road shoe adapter, and a set of spd cleats.
