Unless you lived in New York City in the summer of 2013, you probably didn't have the opportunity to stand in line for several hours to visit "Rain Room," an art installation that manufactured rain but used sensors to ensure that the rain fell around people, never actually getting them wet. We never had the opportunity to experience that, either, but the Giro Women's Rain Jacket affords us a similar chance to find out what it's like to stand in rain without getting wet. So in a way, the Rain Jacket turns a rainy bike ride into performance art.
The Rain Jacket is made from a 2.5-layer, four-way stretch taffeta that's waterproof to 20,000 millimeters yet still breathable. That means it'll keep out all but the most highly-pressurized instances of external moisture while still letting the water vapor created in the jacket's microclimate escape. So in short, you'll stay dry, but not at the cost of restricted movement in the saddle.
The seams are fully taped and the jacket has a cape vent across the back at the shoulders, so the flap keeps water out while allowing for even more ventilation than the breathable fabric affords by itself. Reflective piping helps keep you visible in low-light conditions.
The Giro Women's Rain Jacket is available in five sizes ranging from X-Small to X-Large in the colors Castor Gray and Glowing Red.
