Giro Nine.9 Helmet - 2006 BCS

Finally broke down and got a helmet. This is lightweight, comfortable and surprisingly warm. What took me so long?

I bought this helmet simply because it was affordable and it fit the best of all the helmets i tried on. The first day i wore it was the coldest day that I've ever skied and it kept me more than warm enough. And an added bonus is that you don't even realize that you're wearing anything more than a beanie. Definitely a must buy.

I have a few different helmets including this one. It's so unbelievably light compared to my old Giro helmet. I love how the vents have removable pads so when it's hot I take them out. I like how big the vents are so I don't overheat. All of my goggles fit really well with this helmet.

Very light and comfy helmet...fit my pumpkin right out of the box but at a price. I just skied in it for 2 weeks and found that the ear flaps are a bit flimsy and cheap. The ear flaps (and rear neck pad) are held on by flimsy plastic notches that tend to pop off. Also, in cold weather the ear flaps keep your ears nice and chilly. The chin strap is comfortable. Overall a good helmet.

I like this helmet model so much, I own 2. Fits perfect with the Oakley A Frame goggles, and I really like the music compatibility. The best part is the mute button, which is easy to use, especially when you need to hear that person on the chairlift next to you. That also works really well when you do not want to listen to that person, and slyly un-mute the music. The venting works well, but you have to make sure not to loose the vent flaps.

Light, comfortable, protective, versatile—this helmet definitely deserves its popularity.
Just some minor nitpicks to be aware of:
-- For warmer weather, although you can remove the vent plugs and various pads, keep careful track of them. If you often need more ventilation, consider the Fuse model instead.
-- The ear flags can be a bit drafty in cold weather, though a balaclava will solve that problem.

I tried on a lot of helmets before settling on the nine. It is very comfy, and allows you to vent heat out the top on the warm days. This helmet can't be beat at any price.

The nine.9 helmet is great. I actually prefer it to wearing a regular hat. It is lightweight and with the air plugs removed it lets in enough air for those warm spring skiing days in Lake Tahoe. With the air plugs in it can keep out even the coldest winds. Everyone seems to worry about losing the plugs, but I havn't had a problem yet. Great Helmet.

Skiing Jackson Hole for the first time, I felt that this was a good time to start wearing a ski helmet so my kids don't have to ask me why they have to wear one and I don't. Well, the Giro Nine.9 was awesome. Never once did I even knew that I had it on. The light weight of the helmet was key, as well as a perfect fit, soft and snug. Didn't have the need to try the vent holes and honestly was a little afraid to lose the inserts. The soft ear pads kept me nice and warm though didn't drown out any conversation on the lifts. Also wasn't bothered by excessive wind noise while flying down the cruisers. Only down side is that the ear flaps are a little tricky to reinsert once removed. Overall, this is a great looking and fitting helmet and highly recommended to all my friends, especially my capless snowboarding buddy who suffered a minor concussion on the first day of the trip.

I have tried on at least 20 different helmets for fit. The nine is not as attractive as most Boeri helmets but the ergonomic suck down is phenomenal. The materials in this(helmet) industry all mimic each other so don't expect NASA type quality. It is very light and well vented. Perhaps for those of you who have a medium to smaller head the issue of the helmets relative attractiveness is unimportant.

I've tried to buy a helmet for years. But with a 7 1/2 to 7 5/8 head all the XLs were too small. I found one helmet that fit but it was very hot and heavy and I gave up after one use. This helmet in XXL fits like the proverbial glove. It’s light, comfortable, and, with the vent plugs and ear flaps removed, it was fine to wear on a warm day skiing (certainly cooler than my bike helmet on a hot day). I highly recommend this helmet to anyone, but especially to those with a large melon who have had trouble getting others to fix.

It is a great helmet but the shell melts if it is close to a heater (within 2 ft) so be careful.

Great helmet, great price.. The inserts inside allow for cooling although maybe not as easy as sliding something to do it on the run... but then again you kind of know if its cold or hot so you can prepare before you put it on... I bought the tune-ups later and love them. It's nice and you get pretty decent sound out of it.

Excellent for all but the coldest weather. Very light weight, excellent visibility, can hear everything! For the money you can't beat it.

The helmet is great. I had shopped around a lot of places and selected that one. You can take out the vents for when you are skiing on a warmer day, and the fit is good. My only complaint is that I can't get the straps quite tight enough around my chin as I'm a fairly small person. Otherwise, I love it, and I got the best deal by far at BackcountryStore.com.

A very nice, light helmet. Great fit, and very comfortable for all-day use. Something about Giros makes 'em fit more people. When it's not snowing, I use mine for skating, too. Don't tell the folks at Giro, or they'll make me sign a waiver.

Great helmet... sweet color... light... warm... and comfortable!

I love boarding and love my kid, and ordered two of these helmets--one for me and one for my 16 year old son...told 'em he wouldn't ride unless he wore it (yeah, I know, what an a-hole)...I made sure the color matched his goggles and other gear and, much to my surprise, he wears it without too much complaining. These helmets look way cool, fit just right (pay attention to sizing and measure your head), and keep your noggin dryer and warmer than any beanie...the added feeling of protection allows for more intense riding (can you say SCREAM), harder pops (KAPOW), and a more adrenaline pumped session...definitely a smart buy.

If you’re like me and you work all day in the snow it matters what you have on your head. It can sometimes however be dictated by price. The Nine is a great alternative. It is a snug fitting yet comfortable helmet that will save your brain cells for the après ski bar, not the patrol room. It also costs less than many helmets that don't fit quite as well.

Pretty kick ass. Light and cozy, also purchased the tune up kit. This site has great deals. I will be shopping here more often.

The helmet was very functional. I thought it was lightweight and comfortable. It was easy to take out the vent plugs. I used it while on a trip to Italy. It helped me to conquer the Sellaronda. A magnificent ski adventure in the Dolomites of Italy.

I can say I've never had a cold head in this Giro helmet - even in temps way below 0 degrees. On warmer days you can remove the ear pieces (but sometimes these are tough to snap back in place). It is extremely comfortable and the ear pieces & chin strap are all made with a soft fabric to avoid any uncomfortable rubbing. I couldn't find an exact fit, though, so it helps to wear a thin hat underneath. It is also the only helmet that fits my husband's enormous head!

Stops your brain from leaking after hard impacts. It’s the best head shell I have, and in XL you don't even look like an Alien.

Sure, it looks great, and because you can remove the ear pads and liner, I thought I could turn it into a summer climbing helmets. Don't make the same mistake! There is no hard shell on the outside: the lightweight comes from a shock-absorbing foam which will protect you. So the plastic outer layer (only for decoration?) ends up very fragile and bears the scars of every scratch you’ve had.
Other problem: do not remove and replace the inside cushions and other stuff too often, because it apparently wasn't meant for that (eventually you can't put all the pieces back together again).

This was a spur-of-the-moment purchase that saved my skull on a trip to Steamboat. I’m very glad I wore this comfortable helmet after a fall on ice.

After taking a hard fall nothing is worse than a head injury. Comfy fit and nice design to incorporate tunes. Gets the job done and keeps the grey matter safe.
