With its distinctive visored profile, the Giro G10 MX Helmet has become the signature headwear of the backcountry stormtrooper. Slip it on, dial in the In Form fit system, and send it ‘til your ears bleed. A lightweight EPS hard foam liner protects rapid-firing neurons from inconveniently-placed trees, rocks, and other immovable objects, while the hard polycarbonate shell brushes off the everyday wear inflicted by the bed of your pickup. The removable moto-style visor keeps both sun and fast-moving branches from reaching your face, and 14 adjustable vents keep your cranial temperature regulated. Giro’s Goggle Notch channel keeps your goggles in place, and you can add the TuneUps audio system (sold separately) to bring Jerry and Page along for the ride.
I tried on several helmet brands when looking for a helmet but the Giro was the clear stand out. The G10 MX is very comfortable and fits very snug. I especially like the rotating wheel at the back of the helmet that allows you to adjust the fit. I got the 'white' and it's a little bit of a grey white colour.
Let's see. The G10 is the light, very well vented, and it fits like a charm. There are some pretty good dents in mine, and it doesn't effect it all. It's a helmet, plain and simple. Does it's job with good weight and style.
Not the best combo, since the A-frames have vent bumps in the tops of them, so there is a small gap formed. Other than that though it works perfectly fine.

This is the first helmet I own. After a full season with it I have grown to like wearing it (at first it was weird skiing with it on). I have tried on lots and lots of helmets and they are either terribly uncomfortable, make me look like a bobble head, or a mix of both. This helmet is COMFORTABLE. Even crashing on it doesn't seem to hurt that bad. I had horrible pressure points when trying Smith helmets and cringed at the thought of taking an impact with it. But with this guy, it is the next best thing to wrapping a pillow around my head. The G10 MX is the only way to go in my opinion. The G10 sans visor looks dumb, along with any non-visor helmet. But that just might be me.
I've had a G10 MX (Matte White) for 3 years now and love it. The micro adjust feature allows for an exact fit and the helmet breathes extremely well with all of it's vents (easily closed even with gloves on via the slider on the top of the helmet). The brim keeps branches out of my goggles and the ear pads come out easily for spring time. The goggle strap snap broke on me but I have found I don't really need it with Crowbars. It's well built (besides the snap) and very light. If you like a brimmed helmet there is no need to look anywhere else.
I don't know about you guy's, but I prefer my helmet not to feel like a hat. I've taken some hard falls with this helmet and it doesn't break open or hurt your noggin. It's not a super heavy helmet, but its nice and snug and definitely is very protective. The venting works pretty good, not the best. The visor is very nice for blocking off the sun and is pretty easy to take off for days you don't ant it. It's also pretty hard to break the visors.
I have used this helmet for three seasons in Japan. I do mostly backcountry boarding. Its awesome. Its comfortable, adjustable, you can get to the big switch that opens the vents even with mitts on and it integrates well with goggles. Also, most importantly for sake of argument somehow while scooting along on the hardpack you got distracted because you were checking out a pair of attractive chicks you lost concentration, caught an edge and stacked it epically at speed it wouldn't let you down. When in February did this I am told I managed to pitch pole twice and during the excitement somehow do a 360 head spin thankfully the Giro stayed on and kept my brains where god intended -- though my pride suffered somewhat :(.
In short can't recommend it enough. It keeps your head together (even when you can't). It fits well and from the moment you put it on you forget you are wearing it and you can concentrate on the boarding.
I just bought this helmet and haven't used/seen anything better on the mountain. What do other owners do with their goggles in the lodge/bar? I find I either shove the whole mess up on top of my head, or pop the goggles in a pocket... What do you do?
I thoroughly recommend this helmet, its light, comfy, easy to adjust, I find I wear an ear band underneath to keep out the drafts, and with just a quick flick of the dial I get the perfect fit. The best reco I can give is that when I'm wearing it I forget it's there.
Comfy, easily adjusted to the perfect fit, lightweight, goggles (Bolle) fit fine, well recommended - the best helmet is the one you will actually wear!
I've had Giro helmets for about 8 years now (Giro nine for a while) and they fit great, light and warm.My only comparison is the old school bowling ball style helmets. The visor and google (Oakley Crowbar) combination works well in use. However, it's not easy (possible?) to quickly put goggles on the forehead with helmet on. Not a huge deal, I generally just remove helmet and goggles as one.
Why are you skiing/riding without a helmet at this point?
I think it might just be the lighting that was used in the picture. As far as I have seen elsewhere, it is a darker shade of brown than this shown. Check evogear, they usually have really good photos of colour and the like.
This is a pretty dope helmet. I guess there is a reason why the design hasn't changed much in a few years (except colors/graphics). It fits my noggin just right, is light weight, breathes well, and looks pretty damn good too.
Visor is a little bigger than I would prefer, but it really does come in handy at times blocking sun and misc. debris from hitting your face/gogs. I would def. recommend to a friend.
Robert, have to seen the Giro Seam? Super dope, small visor 1 vent switch really light. You can put your goggles on top, but you really shouldn't do that 'cuz the inner lens can get snow on it.
I have been skiiing for over 15 years and finally decided to get my first helmet this year. I chose the Giro G10 MX after comparing it to a Giro G9 that a friend has. The G10 MX arrived in Matte Primer Grey finish with exceptional good looks. With the adjustable back-band, the helmet fits snug to your head and is not heavy or overweight.
Some reviews reference the inability to place your google on the helmet due to the visor. I have not found that to be a problem. I have also found that when your googles are connected to the helmet, it makes it extremely easy to remove both the helmet and googles at the same time.
I am extremely happy with this helmet and look forward to getting back to using it next season.
Very comfortable but sometimes the padding comes off of the adjustment system which is a little annoying. Other than that, this helmet is great and I think it looks cooler than most helmets out there ;)
Well the answer is both. G10MX is a cool metallic shiny white. In the G10 (not MX) you can buy matte white exploded argyle or white (shiny). Do you want the visor?
The best helmet ive ever owned hands down. It fits like a dream, if you're in between medium and large go for the large the helmet can cinch down to accomodate most noggins. I have a pair of oakley splice goggles that fit like they were customized for this helmet. Style and functionality all in one!
Fist the positives. The helmet breathes great, is super light weight and has adjustable vents that keep you warm on the lift and can let out some heat if you decide to hike to a side country stash. As far as features i would like improved, for the most part the helmet is comfortable, but the adjustable strap in the back of the helmet is slightly uncomfortable against the head. I just switched from the Giro Omen, which had a neck roll in the back, that was much more comfortable. Also the ventilation thermostat is very difficult to adjust with gloves on.
I love the functionality of the brim for skiing in the woods, but one unforeseen minus is that I can no longer lift my goggles and put them on my helmet for tram rides and quick trips indoors.
The helmet itself is fantastic. Very comfortable, great fit, nice adjustability in fit and venting.
The opening comes down just a smidge too far on my forehead and pushes my smith turbofan goggles down my nose. The contact looks to be right at the fan and at the outer edges. I don't think this would be an issue with a smaller goggle frame.
White with titanium dada...Very comfortable... Warm, no need for supplemental head warmers underneath the helmet (which I notice many others are using with other brands where I ski)... Visor works well and my goggles easily slip over, not an issue for me. I'm quite satisfied with my purchase.
Starting wearing this helmet a few years ago after too many crashes forced me to upgrade to it. Very comfortable and very stylish. Solved the whole goggle/visor issue by wearing my goggles inside the helmet. When I'm inside I just pop it off and put the goggles inside of it. The easily adjustable vents are also a plus.
Love the safety of this helmet. I had just bought a brand new pair of Smith goggles when my husband ran over my ski bag with the car, not once but twice. The goggles were located inside of my helmet and my helmet protected them. The helmet has only a small crack (which means I will need to replace) but the goggles weren't scratched. Love everything about this helmet!
My second Giro helmet, can't complain much. Keeps my head warm on cold days, don't have to wear a hat underneath. It is a little bigger than my Giro Fuse, and some of my goggles barely fit. Other than that, i am gonna keept his for a while
I bought this for my husband and he just loves it. It is lightweight and keeps his head warm when he needs it and cool with vents on the top when he opens them. The brim comes off, so he can use his goggles and glasses instead of the brim. It fits to his head like a glove, no shifting when he skies down the mountain. Well worthk the money.
Have a large hat size but narrower oblong head? No problem, perfect fit in a medium for me. My baseball caps typically are size 7 1/2 to 7 3/4 depending on who makes em. Oakley Splice goggles were a perfect fit today. No hinderance at speed at all with the visor. No noise either with the vents closed. Me likes.
This Helmet is great .I never thought I would wear a helmet skiing but decided when I made my kids get helmets I would too. I have only used this in cold weather 5 - 20 degrees f. it is warm, & comfortable, vents work great when I get a bit warm. I don't even know it is there. The adjustment hugs your head without discomfort. Add the Skull Candy drops and it litterally rocks. Can't believe it took 20+ years to put one on, won't ski without it.
The helmet is light enough and fits good. It adjusts rather easily. It seems kinda warm though. I haven't taken a digger while wearing it so I can't report on how well it actually performs it's primary purpose. I'm wondering how the visor will hold up. It's a nice helmet. There are other nice helmets though, and some that aren't as expensive. I recieved mine as a gift from my wife. It came with a note that said, "You've got to protect that noggin!".
This helmet is one of the best you can buy. Besides the fact that it looks sweet it keeps you well ventilated and protected. I landed on my head when trying a 540 and i got up with no head problems at all. The helmet cracked but thats what helmets are supposed do, make it so your brains dont fall out when you crash. the only problem i ran into was that you cant put you goggles on the brim because of the visor but I still highly recommend this helmet for anyone looking for a high quality lid that they wont be dissapointed in.
I tried on several helmet brands when looking for a helmet but the Giro was the clear stand out. The G10 MX is very comfortable and fits very snug. I especially more...
Let's see. The G10 is the light, very well vented, and it fits like a charm. There are some pretty good dents in mine, and it doesn't effect it more...
