The Giro Bad Lieutenant Helmet is standard-issue gear for riders working on advanced maneuvers around the globe. A high-impact ABS shell is bonded with an impact-absorbing EPS liner for protection against incoming fire and hard landings. The removable earpads are backed with plush fleece padding. Because you're in combat mode, you'll have to do without ventilation. The Lieutenant is TuneUps compatible. The Green Camo and Snow Camo helmets have canvas covering.
Bottom Line: Bring the Giro Bad Lieutenant Helmet to assault the park.
Seemed to make me look like a fat-head at first glance, but once it was on and I was suited up that problem ceased to be one. The leather cover has held up good for a couple of seasons, no major scars. Banged my head eating it once or twice playing on the wall ride and did what a helmet was supposed to do. Giro always makes quality noggin covers and this one was definitely worth the cash.
My 13 year old snowboarding/park rat son and I have been wearing the Bad Lt. for the past 2 seasons. There are no downsides to this item. It looks great, the audio ear flaps sound great and keep ears warm, a sturdy snap strap holds goggles in place and there are no gaps between the goggles and helmet. The lack of vents is a non-issue - you do not overheat. The fact my son proactively puts it on for the looks and the music and I wear it because I'm old enough to know that it could be the difference one day (and as I said, it does keep ears warm and does sound great) makes this an all around winner. I also believe that the helmet has a timeless enough quality (in other words it will still be "cool", "steezy" or whatever the word will be in 3-5 years) that I have one each extras in the attic.
no backcountry doesnt work like that...what is on the page is what you get, so this is just the helmet...you can buy the tune ups seperatley, probably on this site, or you can look for the one with the audio system included (if that exists)

The only helmet that doesn't make you look like a "special" child. I have bounced my head off the ice with this helmet and have been totally fine after...thank god. It's cool.
This helmet is great! Having vents would really be better though especially on those really warm days. If it's going to be warm out, get ready for sweat beads. Other than that, the helmet looks really cool.
You get what you pay for...The giro helmet looks great in a box, or on a shelf, but on your head you'll look like Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. The fit is about right, but there is hardly any adjustable padding, in fact there's hardly any padding at all inside. Mine nearly fit, if there was more padding it would have been ok, but the hard foam inside gives a solid headache after a few minutes. The price is great, but if your melon doesn't match up with this helmet just right you're screwed. Overall, fit isn't great and the whole thing seems cheap when you look at it in person.
i like a lot about it, but... pros- comfy, doesnt make your head seem enourmous like some helmets, not to pricey,
cons- strap pinchs unless you loosen it, loosening it is confusing for an idiot like me, the goggles strap doesnt fit around the plastic adjuster thingy on the goggles strap, so it has to be pushed off to the side(a minor inconvenience), and the straps of my goggles dont sit well on the sides (which doesnt matter but it bugs me for some reason)
overall though the pros are more important then the cons, if not as lengthy... a def buy.
The helmet is pretty good. Performs well and looks good. Just be careful. In colder temps the ear pieces seem to be very fragile as they are attached with a thinner plastic.
I chose the black leather model and I am very satisfied. The helmet has a fantastic look. The absence of vents is not a problem and I never felt sweaty while skiing or overheated. Not itchy at all like with my usual wool ski beanie. Great purchase at a great price.
The Bad Lieutenant helmet is "bad." I mean-- it's girly-cool(I have the black with pink cherry blossoms); it keeps my ears warm without having to wear additional headwear; it's ultra comfy!
I love this new helmet that i just bought. the best part about it is that it looks so good out on the mountain and perfectly matches my awesome k2 silencers. the helmet keeps my head and ears really warm when it gets cold later in the evening but when its warm it's great to be able to remove the ear warmers with such great ease. The Bad: not easy to tighten with the chin strap in place, and goggles seem to not want to stay on the helmet when they are taken off the face. all in all i would recommend this product
The Helmet has worked out good so far. Only have used it one day, but the fit felt pretty good. It was about 35 degrees in the morning and it kept my noggin at an ok temp. For the price very good though.
4 months ago I purchased the Giro Bad Lieutenant Helmet. I chose the helmet with the Grim Reaper design. It was a very comfortable and warm helmet. I recently returned from Hokkaido Japan and I wore this helmet throughout my trip and not only did it provide me with adequate protection, but everyone that I spoke to on the mountain complemented on how unique and cool the helmet was.
If you want a helmet that protects and looks cool, this is the helmet for you!
i have this helmet in "blood red". it's beautiful! it fits perfectly, though my head gets a little warm but it's better than being cold. i hit my head once and i really think it prevented a concussion. it really does stand out.
The Giro Bad Lieutenant was my first boarding helmet ever. This helmet doesn't have any vent holes which is a plus on those really cold days for added warmth. It makes your head bounce well off the snow, without any discomfort and you look cool while doing it. definitely the helmet to buy
I've been snowboarding for 7 years, and this is my first helmet... and let me tell you it was a great first choice, This Helmet offers maximum protection, and style and I guess you could say it"stands out in a crowd", I'm really glad I found this helmet, before I went to the store and bought a helmet that everybody has. This site has really low prices. so if you're debating about getting this helmet over another one, get this one.
this helmet is amazing. it is super comfortable and fits awesome with my goggles. very light weight and very easy to transition from not wearing a helmet to wearing this one. make sure it fits and ull fall in love with it as i did.
Yeah, this is kind of the coolest helmet on the market. Add the audio feature and it really rocks! You will own the mountain and your friends with this badass helmet!
This helmet is awesome. Best of all it looks really cool. It stands out from all the other helmets. Most people think the ventilation is bad but i had no trouble with it. :)
This helmet is awesome. It gets a little hot on warm days. But when is it hot when skiing? (or boarding)You stick out alot when skiing. It's the coolest helmet out there. Overall awesome helmet!
I love the bad lieutenant. I just got it at the begining of the season and have worn it a dozen times. It looks great, feels great, and keeps my head warm all at the same time. Pick one up!
Good helmet. Stylie, but a bit heavy. I had no problem with the venting, but you think Giro could have added some of that nice light technology that they have for their other helmets (bike, snow) in this one too.
This helmet was bought for my son and it works great. The fit is very good and with the addition of retention system in the back, it is very good...and looks great.
I bought this helmet as a gift for my boyfriend--he loves it and so do I. When we go snowboarding he looks like something out of Counterstrike, which I think is downright sexy. He loves it because it fits well, is comfortable, and looks good.
This is one bad mofo helmet. The earmuffs slide out so you can pop in the optional "tune-ups" speaker ear muffs (be sure to match with your helmet model). The helmet and chin strap is snug, comfortable, and plenty warm. And it looks bad ass.
Mine is the camo green and I also have a grey one from 2002 or 2001. The Tune-ups don't fit the old one, so I hooked the new one. The old one was a large, new green camo helmet is a medium, its snug, but not uncomfortable. Thing is, this new greenie gets a lot of attention, people love it, people think Im in the military, I just get a lot of comments. Its perfect for what it does, and it looks badass.
This helmet is the real deal, great looks, great protection, great fit. Perfect!! If all helmets looked as good as this we'd all be wearing one!! Some people complain about the venting on this model, but I had no trouble at all, if you do, try wearing a light weight cotton beanie underneath and you'll be fine.
This helmet is bad ass! It's not only light, but it keeps your head and ears warm. In addition, the audio is sweet. Way better than headphones, these audio pads give you great sound. Now you have a chance to have your own soundtrack as you bomb down the mountain! I think it looks way cooler than the Protec Freeride (my previous helmet).
I got the alloy color, and it's awesome - retro Korean War / hip with the shiny shell and crazy dancing butterflies with flowers. Sexiest helmet on the hill! And comfy, and WARM.
Great looking helmet, but it is a tad bigger and heavier than most. It also doesn't have vents so it can get hot in there. All in all, it's a decent helmet and I really didn't notice the drawbacks while I was boarding.
Awesome looks that keep you warm without a hat, but can be worn with one if you take the padding out. Could use a little more padding on the top of the head for better comfort, but thats a very minor problem. Haven't had any problems with airflow for the goggles either. Overall Very Good!
Seemed to make me look like a fat-head at first glance, but once it was on and I was suited up that problem ceased to be one. The leather cover has held more...
