Adjust for winter
Giordana's Silverline Winter Vest received a face lift to better combat the chills of winter. Most notably, the vest now uses a blend of Giordana's New Corsa, SuperRoubaix, and ThermoDream fabrics, with the bulk of the construction using New Corsa -- and for good reason. This material effectively promotes moisture transfer, breathability, stretch, and weather-resistance. We understand that these attributes sound more akin to a summer-weight vest, however, they are needed for winter as well. To hit these ambitious benchmarks, New Corsa is comprised of three layers, all working together towards the objective of keeping you warm. The outer-layer shares the stretch and feel of softshell, but with a water-resistant, DWR finish, it functions without the problem of water absorbency. For the intermediary layer, a WindTex membrane protects you from both the wind and moisture. And while this is an important function, WindTex also acts as the conduit for breathability and moisture transfer between the inner and outer layers. And with New Corsa's post-production, brushed inner lining, you'll be experiencing a comfortable sensation of warmth without running the risk of drowning in sweat. In a nutshell, New Corsa promotes a consistent thermo-regulation, without going overboard on either end of spectrum.
Another key component to the vest's comfort is its ability to move and stretch with your body throughout movement. To achieve this, Giordana used a multi-phase approach. To start, the rear-center panel and collar are made from the ThermoDream fabric. This is a winter-weight microfiber that uses an interlocking knit to provide a great deal of stretch. Giordana likens it to nylon/spandex, only with a weight that can withstand winter. Next, the rear left and right panels were made from the venerable SuperRoubaix material. This fabric features a high inner loft that breathes to relinquish any excess heat within the vest. The last step is the Silverline's multi-paneled construction. Basically, Giordana designed it to accommodate both the contours of the body and the positions and movements of cycling.
This year, the Silverline Winter Vest has been given a taller collar for added protection from the elements. It also features a full-length zipper and a silicone gripper at the rear hem. For storage, the vest has three rear pockets to hold your ride essentials. And to provide a heightened visibility in low-light conditions, Giordana included reflective elements over the rear pockets.

- Q & A
Vest is perfect
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Large
This Giordana Silverline Vest is worth every penny. Looking for a race fit vest, this vest gave me that. With three rear pockets on the back, this vest has something most others don't offer. The quality of the zipper closure and fabric makes this purchase worth every penny. No interference with a full beard is a plus on a ride. I have only worn it since the temps have dropped around freezing, but it should be versatile enough to wear with layers in the cold months and late fall/early spring (in the Midwest US) with just a jersey underneath. As an added bonus, I could see wearing this vest as an everyday non cycling option as well.
