All new.

We've always found it amusing that Giordana's second-tier group of jerseys have managed to outperform most of the best jerseys in the world. And for 2013, the Laser Jersey has raised the bar yet again. With new fabrics and a new direction, the line between FormaRed Carbon and Laser has become seemingly invisible.

Comprising the bulk of the construction is Giordana's newest material, MicroPhase. And although this fabric wasn't developed exclusively by Giordana, it did commission a proprietary alteration to the prior iteration's structure and composition. Now, the material expresses a more compressive characteristics and is a far more effective moisture manager. It features a fabric weight hovers around 135g/m2, which doesn't perform as much blood flow promotion as, say, a 220 denier compression piece, but it does limit the negative effects of road vibration and muscle oscillation from shocks. Another change to the original MicroPhase composition includes an increased incorporation of polyester microfiber and a shift in fiber positioning in relation to the skin. Now, the fabric is far more breathable, and by placing less absorbent fibers next to the skin and more absorbent fibers at the outside, MicroPhase works like a two-filament corkscrew, moisture is quickly pulled away for rapid absorption.

At the shoulder and collar areas, Giordana placed its slightly compressive and incredibly soft Asteria 2.0 fabric. With a nylon/Lycra composition weight of 140g/m2, the Laser jersey sees an extension of MicroPhase's high-level of muscle support. Additionally, the material's threads per centimeter (TPC) is among the highest available on the market. In fact, prior to Asteria 2.0, the highest thread count hovered around 36 TPC. This means that, compared to most competition, the Laser controls the most common points of abrasion with a softer, more conforming, and higher wicking capability. And remarkably, Asteria 2.0 achieves this at a lighter weight than most Lycra blends. Why is this important? Well, if you've worn compressive fabrics, you'll have notice that their heavy in comparison to traditional Lycra. So, this fabric encompasses their key traits without the detriment of a weighty, poorly-breathing composition.

For moisture management, Asteria 2.0 features a honeycomb knit construction that rapidly pulls moisture away from the skin. From there, the moisture rapidly evaporates at the surface due to the fabric's new treatment. However, with Asteria's breathability being coupled with the ultralight Micro-mesh panels at the underarms and inner-collar, thermo-regulation and core temperature are so well managed that your perspiration will greatly reduced. But, should you need to perform an on-the-fly heat dump during an HC, the zipper is equipped with a full-length camlock zipper.

Rounding out the construction is the most important feature of the jersey, its fit. Lazer benefits from Giordana's innovative contoured cut. Essentially, the jersey has been created on an anatomic curve in order to clone the body in the cycling position. By doing this, abrasion is minimized, and fabric bunching and pinching is eliminated. To secure this position, Giordana incorporated its LoPro 45 arm cuffs and waistband. At the cuffs, the new LoPro 45 design uses a low-profile, seamless cuff that holds strong while maintaining an aerodynamic presence. And for further comfort, the entirety of the jersey have been constructed with four-needle flatlock stitched seams.

The Giordana Laser Jersey is available in six sizes from Small to XXX-Large and in the colors Black/white accents, Blue/white accents, Red/white accents, and White/black accents.
