So you need above-the-ankle support for rugged trails and heavy-pack support, but you are not stoked on heavy, stiff boots. Grab the Garmont Men's Sitka XCR Day Hiking Boots. Garmont made the Sitka XCR Boots with an attractive mix of comfort, light weight, and stability. Leather uppers resist wear, while a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex XCR lining repels water. The Sitka XCR Boots' compression-molded EVAs absorb shock, while the aggressive outsoles take on rough trails.

Bottom Line: Supportive hiking boots don't have to equal foot torture.

So far so good

I wasn't so sure about the asymmetrical lacing and tongue system. But, after 10 minutes out of the box, I understand how the off-angle lacing really can eliminate toe pinch. As for the tongue and cuff design, it's nice, but not nearly as noticeable as the natural flex in the toe box.

I've had these for about 2 weeks now and I've to put them under pack load, as I would like to make sure new boots won't fail before I get too far back off the trail. So far, they're looking like they'll, not only hold up, but excel in the backcountry.

I'm giving these a four star rating only because they have yet to stand the test of time.

The difference is XCR is about 25% more breathable than GTX, while still maintaining waterproofing.
