RMA is how this one ended.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

Initial impression: Good looking boot, seemed solid, stable.
Wore them around the house for an hour and decided there was NO WAY I was gonna try to take these off-trail.....
Now, the why:
The metal lace hooks up around the ankle have no backing: that is to say, the side that meets your ankle is exposed metal. I guess they're counting on the tongue for padding?I had a " hot spot" within 10 minutes.
Loosened the laces. Couple more laps around the house, same deal.
In the end I just decided it wasn't worth risking the, "maybe I will see if it gets better after I break them in".
Yeah, I leaned more towards. "I'm gonna get a couple of miles out, have to crawl back, and won't be able to return a pair of muddy, scuffed up boots."
So, I either pussed out, or was smart about it. You can make that call. I know where I stand. Not in these boots, that's where.
A+ on looks. Epic fail on function. May work great for someone else (as evidenced by other reviews), but not for me.

Great Boot

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this boot because I needed something for camping and day hikes when I didn't want to wear my La Sportiva approach shoes. The first time I took them out we hiked Mt. Sherman and spent the weekend camping. The boot is definitely water proof as we crossed a couple streams and snow fields. They are also extremely sticky on the rock with the vibram sole. It was my first hike in these and I didn't have one blister and they broke in quick. Pretty much my go to boot now anytime there is snow or water to be dealt with.

I just purchased a pair , question, do I...

I just purchased a pair , question, do I or can I put waterproofing (sno-seal) on the leather uppers or do I just leave them alone?

Responded on

If you are worried about waterproofing your boots to keep you feet dry their is not need. The Gore-Tex membrane is already keeping your feet as try as they will get. However, it is always a good idea from time to time over the life of your leather boots to give them a light waterproofing, it will only extend the life of the boot.

Responded on

Do not use Sno-Seal or any waxy waterproofing. That stuff will stop the Gore-Tex from breathing. Use a product that is for Gore-tex boots, such as Nikwax Nubuck & suede proof, which is recommended for Gore-Tex. If you have pure leather boots withpout a waterproof membrane, use Sno-Seal. The more you use, the heavier the boots get!
